Megane R26/225 uprated fuel pump options

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Danith, May 13, 2017.

  1. Meant to say, that the fpr in the tank sender will need to be changed if you want anything higher than 3.5 bar at the rail.

  2. So the options are the dw65c or Walbro 255 aftermarket fuel pumps as a direct swap for stock . . .

How much are they roughly? Easy to fit? Would it need setting up/remap? £££££££

  4. Those or the bosch. Ive just arranged to have a walbro fitted next week. Doesn't sound like a simple drop in but sure it'll be something the garage can manage ok, he has an R26 track car and so does the lad supplying the part (new obvs)
Roughly 60-80 for that part, the Dw65c is 150 or so.
Only direct replacement apparently is the oem from renault and I got quoted 250 from them yesterday!!
Don't need a remap for a new pump though no

  5. Google for prices, it's easy to fit but the plastic bodies are brittle so will probably need plastic welded. No need for remap unless you are changing the fpr.

  6. Someone on facebook said that he was charged half an hour labour to have the walbro 255 fited

  7. Will find out next week. Think I know who you mean tho off fb

  8. But just thinking about it, must be without new wires, for half an hour.

  9. Yep

  10. Danith have you had your new pump fitted yet? Keep me posted . . .

Will you fit the 197 fuel rail as well or is it not worth it?

  11. Booked in for next wednesday for a walbro to be fitted. I took this spare ph1 sender unit apart to have a nosey and I really don't know how he'll get the bottom plastic off as this just cracked! He knows what to do tho I'm sure, I'm just a nugget with some halfords tools.

Ive not got a 197 rail, I've got a ph1 172 rail and I'm gonna get a 5 bar reg for it and run a return to the tank. Thats later though, unless I can persuade my mechanic to do it on weds but dunno.

  12. I didn't think the clio rail fit the Megane manifold properly?

  13. That would be a blow! Ha. Only cost a tenner so will have a try

  14. I am sure you have seen this, but just to remind u 7c6a01af759d87550b4bb4aceef5f926.png

  17. Now this is very interesting @Žan
What is the bore spacing for r26
    boys?

  18. I think it would, it just needs tabs welding on for mounting

  19. No return on it tho? Its no better than oem?

  20. Ignore me I'm still half asleep!

  21. Looks like they do any spacing to order

  22. I write an email to them if this fit. Here is the reply: No this rail won’t fit onto a standard manifold, it is designed to run with our fuel rail mounts, which bolt onto our throttle bodies.
Thay can do a custom fuel rail to.

What is up with ktec one for clio ? Is it a straight fit ?

  24. So you replaced the OEM pump with a Walbro buddy or? Was it an easy job?

What MPG were you averaging before and after the new pump was fitted? Mine is Stage 2 and averaging around 20 MPG?!

  25. Its getting done on weds, I'm not doing it so not sure how big a job.
I'm getting about 25mpg around town too on a 'stg 2'

  26. OEM replaced with OEM but didn't replace any seals/loom etc, just the pump with housing/pump itself which was around £200 from Renault. Before it was replaced the absolute best I could get on the motorway at 70 with hypermiling was 29.8 mpg and 23 or something usually. Car was also a twat to start and was missing when under load and this was after new plugs/coils.

After a new pump it pulls harder, starts perfectly and I can hit 38mpg on the motorway with the same granny driving which equates to about 29 on my B road commute. It actually made a huge difference and has probably paid for itself already. I paid someone else to fit it as was worried about tank flex and didn't want to spend £50 for the correct tool to undo the locking ring and they charged me less than an hours labour.

I bought this from ebay before I gave up and bought one from Renault which turned out just to be a pump, no housing and was a walbro unit despite being branded Delphi.

I have still got my old shagged phase 1 pump that I'm going to strip down at some point and find out what's in there.

  27. Had a go myself with a ph1 pump last week. The bottom is impossible to get off without breaking! Loads of black fuel came out too, thankfully not from my car.

    What miles was yours on?

  28. On around 100k when it first started to pack up. According to Ren7oaks who did mine it's quite common on non sport 2.0 Meganes too (I didn't even know such a car existed!) The first signs were bad starting where it would turn over for ages then idle really low and it just got worse from there.

  29. Ahhh. Maybe I'm being majorly overkill then! No Issues just paranoid  having mine done tomorrow but a walbro

Cheers for the update thats good to hear

  30. It's really obvious something is wrong if it starts failing :grinning:

  31. Always wanted to ask, where is the fuel filter?

  32. Got it, its in the pump

  33. Stupid design. It's not even a proper filter

  34. I've never opened up the pump, is the filter before or after the pump?
As i'm just wandering if the filter is to protect the pump from larger contaminants rather than the injectors.

I never understood why Renault didn't put a fuel filter in the pipework.
The filter/ mesh on the actual injectors is always filthy when I check, I have been tempted to fit a fuel filter into the pipework somewhere, but never got around to it

the rail that jenvey sell isn't designed for the standard inlet and they wont make one that would fit?

  36. Jenvy will make one if you send them your rail to copy - mouting points ect. Then tell them the spec you require. Well, atleast they did when i rang them. They said £130 from memory
