Worth giving them a call, do they have their own dyno? I'd personally be getting it ran elsewhere to see what it's like. EFI are good as well if they are anywhere near you as well

  2. Please can you tell me where ED is based and his contact details..

  3. Give Andy at ED a call, it’s a bit of a drive for you as past Chelmsford on t’other side of London, but I can’t recommend him more highly having spoken to him so much before taking my car there and then him actually doing the work. They’re near Kelvedon train station so you could catch the train up and down, or I’d recommend just dairying it for when you can go there and hang around with a good book for a few hours while he maps it.

Tell him I (Mark Williams) recommended you and it was your car I was discussing the high torque level with him.

Good side effect of having the peak torque lowered and the curve flattened is that you will likely see a BHP increase!!

  4. Well Sunday was the first time I gave it the beans in second gear and predictably the revs hit around 5k before jumping up 500rpm (clutch slip) before settling again...so yes, a remap is required. I wonder if KTR will oblige if I asked them? I tried calling R Sports in London (they recommended going to Superchips direct) and called ED but they didn't seem keen on looking at the car? I'm a firm believer in a business putting in the effort with a customer from the first moment so we'll see if they come back to me tomorrow I guess.

Is there anywhere else I can go with the car that's local to me? Surely there must be somewhere good that isn't almost 100 miles away!

  5. You would hope KTR would map it just to however you require/d. ED asked me beforehand how I wanted it mapping, i.e. more bhp or more torque, for the road or for the track etc. etc.

You know my feelings regarding Superchips…

I took mine for a spin yesterday and even it with ‘only’ 340ftlb was way more than enough for the country roads, so yours must be near on undrivable with another 100ftlb (if using all of it).

I’ll send ED an e-mail and see why they weren’t keen on looking at the car for you, I would’ve thought it was a great chance for them to be the knight in shining armour and put the car right.

  6. Yeah, I do now wonder why it was mapped in such a way...I'll be honest and say that ED is a lot easier to reach than KTR so they could pick up a lucrative customer if they play their cards right.

The car does drive very very well I must say, I'm just concerned now that with track days looming etc the clutch will give out and I really don't want to fork out for something that I don't need. I've never once had a car where the clutch has failed me!

Appreciate the help Mark and yes, I'll swing by to visit the art gallery when I'm there

  7. I’ve mentioned my gut-feelings before regarding KTR and this unfortunately has just supported it.

You’ve got to wonder how anyone would’ve given a FWD with standard clutch 440ftlb!? - the AMG A45 with 4WD and presumably a Germanic bullet-proof clutch has ‘only’ 350ftlb…..!!

Hence why ED stated that even with the Stage 2 set up they don’t allow much more torque than the Stage 1 (340ftlb), just more top-end BHP and for longer.

However it’s done you need to have it sorted before going on track otherwise you will start breaking things very quickly!!

I sent ED an e-mail last night, if I haven’t heard back later I’ll give them a call.

Always happy to private viewings on prior-arrangement.

  8. Thank you Mark!

I mailed KTR yesterday evening to ask about a remap to the remap, will see when they get back to me. My thoughts exactly on getting it sorted before racing...especially now I've experienced clutch slip.

I also noticed this morning that when cold the car doesn't want to pull away in 1st? Might be normal I guess..it stutters/bogs like it's over fueling or missing. When it's warm it's fine though.

So what are the opening times for Maison du Art? And is there a cafe?

  9. They’re money-pits cars anyway, so looking at it pragmatically you’ve had all the hardware fitted so now just need to have a bespoke map done, don’t think too much about if you’re ending up paying twice for a map, the end result will be fantastic!

Sounds like it doesn’t it, almost as if it has some high-lift cams. Hopefully the mapping will sort it out.

Well what with the warmer weather we’ve opened up the summer-house so we can have some light snacks and enjoy the garden as we get attacked by Maximus the Gladiator.

  10. I've heard back from Andy at ED, apparently he's been mega-busy but has your message to call you back (had you spoken to his Dad? - he's not got great customer-relations skills). I've asked Andy to give you a call when he gets a minute.

Cold start in first is quite a common thing even stock cars suffer from the kangarooing, just let it idle for a couple minutes and it's fine

  12. Yea mine is sometimes a pig from cold. Buckerooing all over the place!!

  13. Firstly, your car looks lovely and should be a weapon!

The graph you posted doesn't look too great to me, especially at such high boost. Looking at the graph and difference between the two readings you don't get much more power or torque in high revs but will probably get a lot more heat. I'm not an expert though but as others have said there could be room for improvement.

  14. Mark, Jamie....again thank you. I've spoken to Andy now and I've also mailed KTR (might have mentioned that already) about pulling the torque back to around 340 and letting the hp around 350 if that's reliable. KTR have replied and are looking into it, I've also spoken to Andy today, sent him the graph for review and booked the car in for a look over on the 17th of May. If KTR get back to me before then and we get something sorted, all good as I'll still see ED for a general catch up on my way to the art gallery that's near by...I hear they have a new attraction for the summer!

  15. Hi Mark, glad that you will be able to take it to ED, take it easy until then. Unfortunately I’ll be at work on the 17th, but if by any chance you’re passing back down (Ingatestone is on the way up to ED in Kelvedon) in the evening then obviously pop in. Or if by any chance you leave the car there and collect it at the weekend then do so likewise or possibly get off the train in Ingatestone on the way up, pop in and I could give you a lift up to ED.

350bhp/340ftlb sounds sensible, I think ED may safely allow a bit more than that, circa 360bhp/350ftlb but obviously let them discuss that with you. Just for further reference the new 4WD S5 3.0 V6 turbo has ‘only’ got 370ftlb and the 4WD Litchfield tuned GTR 469ftlb which is not a great deal more than your 440ftlb! It definitely needs to be turned down or you will start breaking things very quickly!!

theres a place in north devon too - not sure where you live but if considering k-tec assuming its down south, Tuning Lab, they have a meg R26 with 380bhp and offer customer maps etc on them. Were at the castle combe action day at the weekend and car was flying on track

  17. Thanks for the info, I will give them a look up! KTR have said they're happy to adjust the map to my liking so I will see when and how they plan to approach it initially.

  18. I thought art was meant to be shared and accessible to all? What's all this about reduced opening times etc...I might write to my MP (after I find out who he is).

We will most definitely meet at some point I'm sure. KTR have said they'll remap the map for me so I'm just waiting to see if they can adjust the delivery etc or are just suggesting they alter the torque table?

  19. Good luck MK2, see how it goes and then you've always got ED to fall back on.

....the McLaren 570S with a 3.8 V8 Twin-Turbo has 'only' 443lbft, what were KTR thinking??!!

  20. Love all these power quotes Mark I. My Merc only has 498lbft come to think of it...yeah I dunno why it's mapped that way. I should have said sooner if I'd known the limits. Part of my thinks they just increased boost and fueling as the plot is almost identical to the before run...what I want/need is a bespoke tune to suit my requirement. Hopefully the guys are happy to do that, if not ED.

  21. Our posts missed each other.

There is no art in the summer-house! (Just a big sofa-bed, TV & sound-system, it’s double-glazed and carpeted so it’s quite habitable, but we’re digressing). You are welcome to call in, but I wouldn’t wish Mrs W and two screaming kids on anyone, so best wait until I’m there to act as a human-shield.

All I'm trying to point out is that 340lbft is still a huge amount and the various quoted cars with more torque have much larger less-stressed engines with presumably 'uprated' clutches etc. to handle the torque. 440lbft is a lot regardless, let alone in a FWD small 2.0 4-pot with 30k miles under its belt/clutch.

It's always difficult listening to advice and sorting out the good from the bad, but if you value my opinion then I would take it straight to ED regardless, knowing how they've mapped mine and also what they flagged with the previous SC generic map on it I think they will give you a truly bespoke map which your hardware deserves.

  22. Ok so...

After meeting Ultralight at the weekend (such a bad idea in retrospect). The 250 is now going to be an improved version of the Trophy R. Rear seats are out, harnesses and seats are being sourced and CAE is in for fitting early June!

  23. If you're going full out then at last I approve of the CAE!

Looking forward to seeing and hearing more!....

  24. The rear removal is partially for the sound! The noise of the exhuast howling under boost is immense without all that trim in the way

  25. I'll be interested to see how you get on with the CAE shifter, I really want one for my car. I take it Ktec are fitting yours?

  26. Yeah, KTR are fitting it for me...can't be arsed with tweaking it myself!

  27. Little update on this after a few weekends with not much to do

Bought a PC680 style race battery (6kg vs 15kg) and dropped it in, bought a pair of Momo Supercups (8.7kg) to replace the Recaro seats (25kg) and fitted the Trophy R rear carpet so the car will look stock with 2 seats and decent weight saved from wherever I can without making it compromised. Next up is the CAE shifter early next month, KW Clubsports and maybe some composite panels.

  28. Looking good MK2! Presumably the battery won't hold as much charge so you'll need to keep it topped-up?? May be think about relocating it to the boot at some point...

  29. It's rated well (if I understood the thing correctly) so should last a week without use? I thought about moving it to the boot but there's the weight of the cabling for really not much advantage in balance. I've done now really with weight saving, ultralight might be looking into some plastic windows that I'll definitely take and if I could find doors or a boot lid in carbon (along with a bonnet), they'd be bought pronto.

  30. It could be earthed in the boot and then you'd just need a run of positive cable, wouldn't weigh that much, plus you'd be able to get rid of the bloody pain in the arse to remove for every little job battery box!!!!

Whatever you do, I'd pop a Ctech trickle charger lead on it.

Looking forward to hearing more in the future!

I'm thinking of de-blacking mine a bit and taking the diamond covers off and putting the RS grill badge back on, along with the Cup badges and possibly the rear RS badge. It's a bit too gang-stary at the mo...

  31. Modifications look good!
Did you modify the strap that retains the battery, both in height (the small battery looks lower, so would assume the strap needs to be lowered also to touch the battery which it looks as though it does in your pictures), and also width wise to stop the battery being able to move front to back?

  32. Evening James, nope..I just made up a small block of wood that was 25mm tall and the same foot size as the battery. I then used some neoprene padding on the battery top itself to make a tight fit with the bracket and when it's fully screwed down there is zero movement at all. A very easy mod to do on the car!

  33. That's true! I don't know...I think having it in the boot just is little return for the huge effort (relatively speaking) but I do take your point on the wanky battery box. I've now removed both seats, ordered sub frames and removed all belts so as soon as frames arrive, I can drop them in and get the harnesses.

De-blacking you say? You know what you could do with? Some blue wheels  But seriously, you can over black the car which is why I left the rs on the front and the rs on the rear!

  34. Ha ha, blue wheels would look great, I wonder why more cars don't have them?!

Agreed, could you do me a big favour please when you're next with your car and take a photo of your front and rear with all the badges so that I can compare to mine.

  35. You want a photo of my front and rear? Clothes optional?

  36. Depends where the badges are positioned.....

  37. I'll see what I can do that keeps my modesty intact, you're not giving me much to work with.

  38. You two need to get a room :tearsofjoy:

  39. Depends if it had a view....!
