I always park my meg on the front driveway of the house as I don't have access to a garage. My mum was working from home today and noticed a guy with his hood up walking round my car and trying the door handles (at 9 in the morning!). I've also had my other car opened on a separate occasion and they also tried to gain access to my megane whilst they were there. I always double lock it which seems to turn the keyless entry off, but is there anything else I can do to give me a bit of extra security? I'm probably going to get a tracker fitted asap but that's not really a deterrent. Other than something like an alarmed car cover which is a giant ball ache is there anything easy I can do to stop some arse getting into or having my car?
just really a aftermarket alarm, if they want to really get in it nothing is going to stop them whats those alarms called when you go near a car its makes a noise
You can fit a steering lock and/or a gearlever lock. They won't stop somebody getting into your car, and they won't stop them stealing it if they really want to, but it is another visible deterrent.
I didn't think of a disklock, it takes 2 full lock turns to get off my drive so that would probably put the plebs off a bit!
It's a shame that you have to spend that kind of money to put some idiot in a tracksuit off stealing it and burning it out but that's the world we live in!
Some 6mm 3 core with a plug on one end, stick the other ends (minus ground, who needs grounding?) just behind the door handle and wait...
Also thinking of putting a post in behind the car, that should slow them down! It's parked there with a bay window and a hedge in front, so the only way to get off is to shuffle backwards and forwards twice and off the dropped kerb
Had a smartrack tracker fitted to my previous civic type r with remote immobilisation via mobile or laptop. £299 fitted and £12pm subscription. Seriously considering it with my megane RS, being liquid yellow it's hardly discrete.. They also offered a ghost immobiliser which involves pressing a sequence of buttons or indicators etc before starting or the car won't start even if they have the keys or cloned them.
I live in Luton and want to move out soon, and a garage is a must! There are only 30 RB8's in the uk so if it goes it'll be hard for them to shift and next to impossible for me to find another one!
Friend of mine is a Renault mechanic and he can fit a Vodafone one for £180, not sure how much it is per year. You can view it from your phone and get it to call or text you if the car moves within a specific time or goes over a certain speed etc. He's got one on his LY 265 and has never had any problems with it so I think I'll be getting one of those
If that's right in front of your house a security camera or two would be an easy fit and they don't like them. Security lights put them off a lot too. My old man's S3 has been 'tried' a few times (caught on camera) but they don't bother if it's locked. Problem is their stupid bint of a neighbour left hers unlocked... only needs to be successful once and they'll be back. As soon as their light pops on they scurry off though. I can't see the rest of the layout but you'd benefit from a small fence in front of it, it's not going to stop some but it does mean they have to jump it or walk round. Psychological partially but it slows someone down enough to deter the opportunists. Loads you could do really. I think the type that do try this stuff deserve their fingers shortening.
Agreed! We have 3 cameras on the car because we get them cheap, it's a good system but it doesn't seem to deter them! The police aren't interested either as they're short staffed at the moment. That's not me saying that, that's what I was told when they got in my daily and emptied everything on to the floor looking for something to take! I'm going to order a post that goes in the ground behind and hope that puts them off. It's just scary that he came as soon as we would all normally be at work, had his face covered fully, and had the balls to try it in broad daylight! It's only when he noticed my mum stood in the kitchen that he left!
I'd offer to swap but they tried my old one too! Would be nice to be able to lock it away where they can't see it but the garage is full of van!
Hey What about a dead switch? Obviously it means they would of broke in but just wire it in when they try the ignition it will just crank... Chris Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
Just made an enquiry on a Ghost immobiliser, seems impressive but not cheap. £399 fitted. Virtually impossible to steal without lifting onto a flatbed. Attatched info https://cdn.fbsbx.com/v/t59.2708-21...1d6d38195cde8342fa2da49c0419&oe=591E4D9B&dl=1
