250 Engine Dynamics vs RS Tuning

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by RHK3, Apr 28, 2017.

  1. I've been speaking to both Andy at ED and Paul at RST and they've both quoted me similar figures, but I know the gains are down to each individual car.

With the mods I have: Cat Back Exhaust, Decat, KTR Induction Kit and I'll be getting an Intercooler before the map.

RST quoted me 320bhp/360ft/lbs for £474
ED quoted me 310-320bhp/330-340ft/lbs for £380

I'm tempted to go to ED as it's a lot closer to me (I'm in London) and Andy has been really helpful but loads of people say if you want to map a Renaultsport then go to RST.

I'm in 2 minds, where would you go? Any advantages/disadvantages of either?

    Cars a 2010 250 Cup.

  2. I would be going to Paul, he knows these things really well, i believe he worked with or for Renault at one point

i had my engine rebuilt last summer by engine dynamics, i haven't had any problems with it so far.

    they also remapped it

  4. Another big vote for Engine Dynamics here. As you say, Andy is really helpful and really knows his stuff - especially on the mapping side.

  5. Does Andy actually do the mapping in house now?
He always used to farm it out to henk.
I know last year or so he said that henk wasnt really interested any more so was looking for alternatives (I enquired about getting larger injectors mapped in and they couldnt do them back then).
Thats why maps were never done in a day as he had to send and recieve info to and from henk (had my old cammed clio mapped their)

  6. I’ve only known him and ED for a couple of months but understood/stand that he does the mapping in-house. Strange, as the things we’ve discussed in person were not the things a ‘simple’ downloader would know to discuss.

  7. my map from RS tuning has been on the car for 6 years..never missed a beat.
Dont know engine dynamics procedure, but i drove all the way from south west england to leeds.

power run to start with to check everything was in order before map was uploaded.
then map tweaked on the rollers.

    night and day difference..100% reliable...

what more can you ask for?

  8. Thanks for all the replies.

@jjones82 he didn't mention anything to me about not doing the mapping in house.

@Space Cadet what gains did you get from your map at ED?

  9. He always used to log the data on the RR then send it off to be fettled with and re upload it.

I haven't been down their in a good few years though.

Although last time I spoke he said that he was on the lookout for a new mapper as henk wasnt interested anymore and was taking ages to send the iterations etc.

Andy is a good bloke knows his stuff been in the renault tuning world for.years, used to be bbpt before engine dynamics. One of the first in the uk to turbo a clio

  10. Don’t get too bothered about gains per £, it’s the science behind the map that’s important. Superchips gave a great increase but then when their map was investigated it was found they’d only made literally a couple of changes. ED limit the bhp/ftlb at what they do so as to give some safety and longevity to the rest of the drivetrain.

Next time I speak with Andy I’ll ask him the honest question about who does the mapping. It doesn’t really bother me though who does it as long as it’s done properly.

ED and RST both get really good feedback so it’s up to you who you take your car to, ED is obviously much nearer to you and if you were to go there I know you will be pleased, much as you would if you went to RST.

  11. No im the same.I trust andy and his work. As said before he used to.use henk who is regarded as one of the best in the world for mapping renaults. Although never really gets much of a.mention over here

  12. @Space Cadet thanks for the info.

I'm not entirely bothered by the amount of power I can get for the cheapest price.

I was only asking, because I believe we both have the same car and similar mods, so I just wanted to know how close the gains were to the quoted figures.

  13. @jjones82 oh okay I didn't know that myself.

When you questioned whether he does the maps or henk does them, I thought you meant it in a bad way. But obviously not!

  14. No not at all, henk is really well regarded, he was always really popular on cliosport, the aussie forums use him a lot for the Megan's too but hes never really got much coverage over here. Paul at rstuning uses his remote mapping interface. Theres been comparisons on the other megane forum between the two maps etc etc.

Some people complain about his customer service but I've always found him spot on. It.may be down to english not being his first language??

Personally id use whatever works out cheaper/ most convenient!

  15. Go for RS Tuning. Forget any politics or naffed off dudes with unjustifiable preferences and stick with the experience and proven results.

  16. Wagner intercooler, K&N panel filter, full Scorpion exhaust with sports-cat produced 314bhp and 340ftlb.

engine dynamics mapped my 630cc injectors

  18. How's that feel compared to stock? Is it a noticeable improvement?

Never had a car mapped before.

  19. Its a massive improvement, it's not an unruly beast by any means as it's still happy to pootle about but when you want it to it can be seriously quick!!! The superchips map gave good headline figures but it felt very boosty, whereas the ED map feels very smooth.

  20. Another thumbs up for Andy at ED he mapped both my mk3 and a friends. Both cars run great daily here and on the Nordschleife/GP track!

We had the same dilemma about where to go as I'm down south too.. Naturally neither tuners will disappoint and both map the cars properly.

  21. Thanks for the replies.

Seems like Andy is very well regarded in here too, so I will most likely go to him.

Does anyone know if he is able to map in more pops and bangs?

My car is mapped by RS Tuning and I live in Hampshire so it's a four or five hour drive but worth it imo.

Good thing about Paul is if you want the map changing because you've done other mods he only charges for dyno time.

  23. Had my car mapped at both, prefer Engine Dynamics just because they are closer! Either are great!

  24. I keep changing my kind. I say to myself that I'll go here and then change my mind.

My gut feeling is to go RST but the drive and the extra £100 is putting me off slightly, but I know either would be worth it.

  25. In that case Engine Dynamics! No brainer!!! You will not be disappointed [emoji16]

  26. Lol I guess so!

*waits for more people to come along and confuse me even more* :tearsofjoy:

  27. im in the same boat, im in cambridge and im un sure how to go for atm.

  28. I just looked where engine dynamics are, thats my mind sorted :tearsofjoy:

  29. I’m not in any way anti-RST as I’ve never spoken to them or been there or heard anything other than good things about them, but am very pro-Engine Dynamics as have had quite a bit of work done there and Andy is genuinely extremely helpful before, during and also after the work - he has given me lots of free advice on other things since I’ve last had any work done there. As he’s more local to you than RST it’s a no brainer.

  30. Yeah I think my minds made up now.

Engine Dynamics it is.. Just need to get myself an intercooler first.

  31. I went for the Wagner and bought it direct as got free postage for doing so, was actually really easy to fit.

  32. Is tdf still going? They use rs tuning files and are based in kimbolten which isnt far from cambridge, they did me 197.

  33. I think I'm going to go for the Airtec Stage 1. Andy told me to avoid the bigger intercoolers like the Airtec Stage 2 and Pro Alloy etc.

  34. TDF went bust years ago, Matt Faulks was a great auto engineer but unfortunately a poor business man.

  35. There website is still active

  36. He runs x-F1 cars for a client racing in Boss GP and some endurance GT stuff. Based at Bedford Aerodrome.

  37. I just Googled it and so he does! TDF 'tuning' went bust a few years ago. I had a lot of work done there on my previous 172 track car and saw it slowly fold. Glad though he's back on his feet as he was personally a great guy and really knows his stuff!

  38. I drove from Stevenage to rst without a second thought.

  39. Plus a well proven and extensive track record and depth of knowledge on the RS Meganes counts for a lot.

Convenience and a saving a few £ wouldn't be a criteria when ultimately you just want the best map you can get.

I don't get the hype, yes they are good but I certainly wouldn't travel the 4/5 hours to get it done there and haven't.

People seem to make out that they are difficult to calibrate . Take it to a reputable mapper that knows what he is doing and you won't have any issues.
