Evening all, So today, after a bit of effort and a failed first attempt (got it all wrong...forgot spigots, bolts, valves and spacers) at Guildford Tyre Co. the GramLights are on the car. They're 18x8.5 ET52 and they weight 8.4kg each. With the spacers (5mm) and the stud conversion, the total weight per corner is 8.8kg which is around 2.5kg in added lightness. Not sure on the colour scheme as I bought them used to have them refurbished but they came in perfect condition! private image hosting
I think one colour on the wheels would look ace! Nice to see someone trying something different on here.
Thank you. The blue without the centre caps is actually growing on me now! The day I hit a curb though...4 wheel refurb haha
Top effort! You even lowered it I was thinking either gunmetal barrel (as you have done) and gloss black spokes or the reverse. I do like a gunmetal wheel though...
I know I've kind of lost my way with the blackness (the studs, spacers and nuts are black though) but the blue is actually pretty cool :/
Wheels look great! I'm slighty confused though. Are these Rota wheels or genuine Rays? ive had 4 or 5 sets or Rota wheels on past honda's and always loved them! Would be great to get a set on the megane my self...also was the stud conversion needed or just a preference?
I was debating a set of Rota Force in 8.5×18 with et48 for cost reasons but was put off by the weight at 9.9kg a rim. Used to have Wedsports and Rays/Volks (te37) even Advan RGs on other cars so kept an eye out for some used ones on Ebay...these came up at pretty much the perfect offset 52 but when they arrived the bore fouled on the hubs so I bought 5mm spacers and thought about the studs because the car is tracked. Got to say I love them now in the blue, so unique and so so light.
And sorry, the seller on ebay was rare rims who are a stockist for Rota...hence the misleading boxes!
Ah thanks for the explanation! Used to get all my wheels from rarerims as they were local ish to me! Shame rota don't do higher offset for our cars, i don't really want anything lower then 55, but must say yours looks fantastic.
A few better pics... Any reason for the offet limit? Mine is now et 47. The fronts are perfect but the rear could go to around 42 for the look
Scrub radius , extra stress on other componets on the car. Just my personal view, renault spent thousands, millions? develping the car. If they belived having a lower offset wheel would have been better, they would have fitted them. But thats only my personal view. The offset you're running does look great
Never had an issue running wheels with lower offset. The above statement is also a little extream yes a lot was spent but also not the best of the best was used, it's done as a working compromise. Yes you'll loose a little feel but not enough to make you worry about ruining the car
Odinson beat me to it Each to their own as they say but I've never believed the 'if xx manufacture did yy this way then it's best to leave it alone'. Manufacturers need to meet costs and costs (unless you go extremely high end where it's not a factor) means compromise...amongst other things. I won't confess to know much about scrub etc but I would put money on not wearing out components prematurely due to spacers and offset changes
Used to have a set of Gold RGII on my old MR2 way back...then TE37s, then Wedsports haha! Look fantastic but don't they stick out too far with that offset?
