New Megane 250 Owner - South East

  1. Hi All,

I'm now the very pleased owner of my 5th Megane! A 2012 FF 250.

Previous Megane history include (had other non renault cars in between these):
    • 2006 Megane 1.6 Dynamique
    • 2006 Megane 225 Cup
    • 2011 Megane GT Line 1.4 TCI (written off)
    • 2016 Megane GT Line Nav 1.6 DCI 130
It feels pretty brisk compared to the diesel I had before, the handling is so much better sorted that the GT line models as well!

  4. Thanks! I don't think I've seen many others in this colour...normally grey or white.

Couple of questions I have so far:
    • How easy are Xenons to retro fit?
    • Is it worth fitting the diff from the cup models?
    • The stereo is shite. Will a speaker upgrade sort it or should the headunit be swapped out? The arkamys system I had in the previous Megane wasn't that great either!

  5. Welcome to the bluuuuuu group!

not sure i've seen any before without the DRL in the blade, interesting wheels on there!

Xenon's can be done but not easily, i read up for a while but decided not to bother, i have no electrical expertise and they are expensive to buy let along get them to work.

Mines also not a cup, i have wondered about the diff but never any serious looks, not sure whats involved.

I had the whole stereo replaced, Changing the headunit will loose you all of the 'top' display usability and also the loss of the usb / aux plug (if you have). You can still use the stalk controls but that's more cables etc needed to go with the headunit. I had an amp fitted with good mids / tweeters and a 10inch sub for the boot, i was hoping to keep the headunit but this wasn't possible in the end, the poor signal / quality of the stock unit couldn't manage it without horrible amounts of noise through the speakers. It's still not perfect now but only noticed at very low volumes. (it's renault wiring noise which doesn't get louder with volume)

Mines been away all week, getting rid of the diamond cut(i love it but not the corrosion) and going full gloss black. I just had the call that it'll be ready to pick up tomorrow morning!

  7. Good to see another blue one Dubz! Thanks for the info.

I've looked into fitting the DRLs into the blade, something I really want to do as it makes the front end look a little more up to date I think. Must of been something they introduced just after mine was made.

Pics of your's look great, some useful ones for upgrading the stereo too! It's a shame the stock HU can't drive some uprated speakers better, I was hoping I'd get away with just upgrading them.

does it have projector headlights? if soo have you thought about LED headlights. my brother fitted them to his lexus and there really good

  9. No projectors unfortunately, just reflectors

  10. i actually tried just changing the speakers at first, some pioneer ones, just basic ones but they actually sounded worse (almost), installer said it's sometimes because the crap amp in the head unit is tweaked(by manufacturer) to give a slightly better sound with the stock crap and can sound really bad on actual decent speakers.

  11. Shame. Keep seeing these Chinese Android head units with SatNav for sale, may look into installing one of them hooked up to an external amp.
