Really nice work. You basically have the same thought process as me in terms of the car and what you need it for. I've been looking at caymans, but they're a lot more money and not faster than the Megane unless you go for the bigger engine. I wish I'd got a trophy R instead of just a trophy but like you I do loads of motorway miles and M25 traffic so didn't want something super uncomfortable. I had pole positions in my Saxo years ago and to be fair did a London commute everyday then but I'm not sure I could deal with that now lol, and the standard recaros are pretty awesome. I'm really tempted with a Cae but am scared I'll end up on the sloppy slope of money spending and modifying lol. We shall see! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cheers. It's becoming more of a track car but I want to keep it "nice" - not interested in stripping it down Next update will be the twin plate clutch and brake cooling before heading off to the ring a few times this year
I can stamp on my brakes all day with no fade the Ds Uno really do out up well with punishment but I'll still be getting some ducts made up
Fantastic build mate...really top notch. How is your rear bar secured? I fancy the idea of removing the rear seats, but would need something similar and these are not easy to find on t'internet from a trophy-r (unless someone has a link) I have toyed with the idea of a half cage, but not sure. I really like the clean look of yours inside.
Cheers mate. It's bolted to where the plate that the rear seat belt holder connected to If you remove the trim in the rear (which requires removing trim from the front door back... absolute nightmare) it will expose a plate that has three bolts to the chassis. The rear seat clip and seat belt holder bolt on to that Remove the whole lot, then the bar is bolted to one of the holes in the chassis (at either end of the bar, it's bent at 90 degrees and those bits go through the trim and are bolted to the chassis) Unless you weld it to the chassis, I wouldn't put a harness on it. Not entirely sure I would want to rely on a single bar either...
Thanks for that mate. Sounds like something I will investigate. I wouldn't put belts on it. Just want some way to hold the shopping in the back without getting a pint of milk hitting me on the back of the head while returning from lidls I'm thinking that belts could be anchored to the rear floor like the 'r' but again would need to see when I take seats out. You're totally correct - the r uses the bolts in the chassis where the rear seats were Only issue for me is that my custom sub box covers them so I can't get at them without more work ... though I don't want harnesses However I don't recommend harness belts without a cage, even though the Megane seems strong on its roof(!) because your neck has nowhere to go if the roof gets caved in
Makes sense, never even considered that, especially as I have the pano-roof on mine. Got some plans for the car this year, but wondering if it would be better just selling the trophy and getting a 250 just for track and a daily driver rather than tweaking what I have.
My advice... - sell trophy while it still has some value - buy a 250 cup - exhaust, remap (nothing mental, just 300/300 or something), uprate the intercooler (Wagner) - remove rear seats and stuff in a garage if you're able - sticky tyres Drive it like you stole it No idea what the value of a Trophy is but let's say £20k, the above would cost you £10k including the car, so you'd have a lot of change and have a faster car The standard seats are a bit cack on track but unless you're really bothered about it, just leave them in as it's a lot of faff swapping them around.
Food for thought mate. I'm offshore tomorrow so three weeks to work out what to do. What you describe is perfect I think. Cheers [emoji106] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Thanks Jamie, was just reading this Neil..you're in Surrey? I'd like to pick your brains on the exhaust (I have the KTR full system with sports cat at the moment), the battery and the oil cooler. Battery wise I'd like to know how you moved the bits around in the bay and where the battery lives now...oil cooler is which core do you have, which kit and where is it mounted? Thank you!
I had a Cayman R, although it's a capable car, unless you really have spare money to bin it say at the Ring you won't want to push it like the Megane. Hence I sold mine Monday now I'm looking for a 250 to create a track focused car. Love the build thread stunning motor.
