Hello all, Some may already know me from previous cars: My MK5 Golf I got rid of towards the early part of last year, 360bhp, BTCC body, wavetrac, ST's, Caged etc etc. Miss it! Replaced it with a 250 Cup: Great car, did a few little bits to it and did a couple track days but got rid after 6 months. So on to the new car! Some of you will recognise it as Mark's off here from a while back. My best mate bought it last year and he offered it me so I couldn't help myself! So the spec: KTR Hybrid Turbo KTR Front Mount Intercooler 630cc Injectors Miltek Full Exhaust System Mapped by RS Tuning 293bhp 310lb-ft. R26.R gearbox with LSD Helix clutch and SMF KW V3's with custom spring rates Fully Polybushed Yokohama AD08R's Reyland Motorsport 330mm 2 piece discs with RC6+ pads Wheel stud and nut kit Sabelt cup racer steering wheel Cobra Imola Pro Seats Plastic rear windows Weight: 1236kg with a full tank Currently waiting on some adjustable top mounts for the front suspension and I just plan on using it. Might add a few personal touches here and there but I bought it as a just add fuel and track it kinda thing. First impressions, only picked it up yesterday and went for a blast last night, so well set up and really flies. Love it. Can't wait to get it on track! Enjoy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Always said the subtle changes to looks makes the most visual impact, black Renault Diamond badge added earlier, looks miles better than chrome!! Also, does anyone else prefer the chubby 225 front end to an R26, I do! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Black badges I'm in agreement 225 vs R26 front end will divide opinion. 225 looks more aggressive whilst R26 has a cleaner look. Christian Great spec ticking all the right boxes. It would be interesting to hear your opinion of mk2 vs mk3 given The experience of owning both
Agreed! Not saying I don't like the R26 front end, still look great. It's hard to compare the two if I'm honest, mainly because my mk3 was relatively standard. I couldn't really justify having a £10k plus car sitting on the drive for 3/4 of the year lol. They're a great piece of engineering and it shows on track... almost too much. It's far to easy to drive on track in my opinion, it's quite hard to go wrong from what I experienced. This 225 is a bit more dicey and far more exciting to drive, mainly because of the spec however. Does anyone know of anyone that makes plastic door cards for a Megane 2's? Little picture from the weekend [emoji7] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Few minor updates; DIY front splitter. Bolted to the chassis so it works, still waiting on some splitter stays as at 110+mph it's pulling the front of the car down so much it kisses the Tarmac. DIY side splats, look cool imo. Bigger sunstrip as the original does nothing for me in the sunlight! Also! I have a spare set of R26 wheels I'm going to get refurbed a different colour this weekend. I'm thinking baby blue... On the subject of wheels. I keep looking at alternatives but no one seems to be that experimental with R26 wheels, cue the boring TD 1.2's!! Any got any ideas? Also don't seem to see people running 17's on these so have no idea how they'll look [emoji23] Ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Car's looking brilliant with those little subtle changes mate ! Making me miss it As for 17" wheels I was keeping an eye out for some second hand OZ Ultraleggeras on the Clio forums but they're rarely for sale for long. I had them on my 197 Cup and loved the look of them along with how light they are ! Do you use the car with no front number plate ?
Do you get glare reflection on the windscreen from that phase 1 instrument binnacle cover? It used to irritate me to no end but then I replaced it with one from a phase 2 and it made a world of difference. They're essentially interchangeable. You just need to grind down a small section underneath to make it fit.
Small world I was looking at buying this last year, looks great With regards to wheels I actually run 17 Laguna wheels for track as tyres are so much cheaper plus they clear perfectly
Problem with aftermarket wheels for these meganes is the offset and the fact it's difficult to run significantly wider wheels. I wanted 17x9 but they'd have to be like ET60+!! So the spare r26 wheels are at the powdercoaters for a new look! And yes I do lol. Getting a plate for it today though as I've got the Nurburgring in 40 days lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only reason for wanting different wheels was to try and run 9j wide all round. Don't think it's possible tbf on these as you'll need like ET60+ as explained above. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got the splitter finished off today and had a front reg plate made for it due to needing one for Germany next month. And one I took of the interior on my go pro. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Need to look into whether is it worth doing from a race perspective? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Recent pics from Cadwell last week. Aaaaaaand I refurbed my second set of wheels in blue Unfortunately my clutch is stuck at the floor and can't select gears. I'm convinced it's the release bearing as I know the clutch isn't particularly old. We'll see when the box gets taken off. T minus 31 days till Nurburgring!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ph1 front end looks better, much more aggressive and serious. and i am an r26 owner Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
I would agree and probably (with fogs removed) has better airflow to the brakes! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks brilliant, the blue wheels are certainly different but the car manages to pull them off (though I'm bias towards Racing Blue type colours) ! Is the drivers side splitter stay broken ? You'll need to get a couple of trackday videos uploaded
Yeah mate I smashed it off on a Bollard at cadwell [emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Congrats on the car mate, looks very purposeful and quick even stationary! I've yet to meet a 225/r26 that isn't quicker on the straights than my stock 250. Your car must fly with that power and lack of weight
Having owned a 250 prior to this I can confirm it is much quicker haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice, I like what you've done to it. Really nice seats, What / how much were they? Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Love the car, building myself a front splitter next week as well! Nice to see that its working for you. I'm also looking for 17" trackday wheels, but havent found anything other then the OZ! Greatings from a tracktoy R26 from sweden!
That would look so menacing in your rear view mirror. Now what it needs is to ditch the fog lights for further weight saving and get some blanks or duct in some brake cooling.
One thing I was about to install, but I sold my car, was a pair of DTM style external rear view mirrors. Reduce weight, reduce drag and looks sooooo much better. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/mirrors/demon-tweeks-dtm-style-carbon-rally-mirrors
Off to get the slave cylinder done. Box off. Nightmare [emoji849] less than a month until the ring!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So I've got the car back, happy days. I also became the luckiest man ever yesterday morning. A cobra Sebring pro came up for sale on eBay for £50. Yes, a £625 seat for £50. So I clicked buy it now and my mate Mark went to collect it [emoji23] perfect as it matches my passenger cobra apart from having the ears. And it's relatively mint. I love eBay. Will be fitting it as soon as we're back from the ring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just be aware that you might be running into trouble with such a seat on the road. MOT, police and insurances will often see it as illegal as it reduces visibility significantly.
Ran one for a year on the road in another car, no trouble at all bud. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So managed to get some adjustable top mounts for my KW V3's. Will be fitting them after the ring. And went stealth with the wheels, so much better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
