Just a quick thread on Misfiring on idle. Injectors cleaned, plugs changed..

  1. Hi Guys,

I've been having a misfiring on idle and rarely a power drop and missfire at high RPM. I've had the injectors cleaned - which helped a lot for the first 1000 miles or so, plugs changed - again helped. Had a map done as it had been fine ever since plugs were changed however now its back to square one :-(. Could the coilpacks be the cause? Is there a way to test them? Lastly which ones would you go for, I've seen some NGK ones on ebay for £25 each but would want to put the best ones in as cars now mapped.

    Cheers,

    Kurt

  2. First things first car needs plugging in to a diagnostic machine to see if there's any codes , no point throwing parts at it to fix it mate !

Coilpacks are common but just because of this doesn't make it them !

Where abouts do you live ?

  3. Thanks for the reply! I mapped my car with an RSTuner (due to distance from RStuning, leeds) and there were a couple, one from me not plugging everything back in after doing airbox mod (twat! haha) and the other was multiple random misfires detected which was when it was really bad after flooring it coming off a roundabout suddenly lost power, changed plugs and cleaned injectors and all was running ok.

It seems ok but occasionally on idle it, coughs every now and then. Seems very random though and sometimes when driving hard it looses power for a second or two? I love down in Cornwall.

    Cheers,

    Kurt

  4. Hi mate. Did you ever cure the missfire? Im having the same issue on my 225. When the car is at idle it pops from the n/s tailpipe and the tailpipe itself is colder than the o/s 1 and when the car is cold all the exhaust vapour is coming out of the o/s tailpipe and none from the n/s tailpipe if that make sense? Help anyone?

Popping is usually a sign of injector problems. Have they ever been changed? If not then it is worth doing as it's a common fault.

The exhaust gas takes route of least resistance so coming out of one tailpipe at idle is normal.

  6. Hi mate. Thanks for the info. I dont see anything mentioned in the service history about injectors. Is it an expensive fix? Also i have a warranty on the car as i have just bought the car from a renault garage so maybe i should mention it to them.

They're about £50 each so would get the garage to sort it instead of potentially buying them and not curing it.

  8. I will do that mate. Thanks
