Megane 250 Daily and Track Car

  1. Wasn't sure where to add pics etc but these seemed the right place. I've had the car a month now, bought from KTR with 29k on the clock, RS Tuning remap, Eibach springs and KTR induction kit (301hp).

The car had a Scorpion exhaust on it when I viewed it but this was ditched in favour of the KTR full system with sports cat. At the same time I had a Forge BOV fitted for my ears.

Since collecting the car, I've had a Wagner FMIC fitted, had the drivers side bolster repaired and fitted a set of Gramlights with a stud conversion. The car is booked in next Saturday for the KTR stage 2 turbo kit and once that's done, it's off for a set of KW Clubsports and a CAE shifter.

It'll be on track from April 25th (Brands) and then the Ring in June and August with other UK tracks until the end of the year.

  2. Nice car. Good plans, similar to mine, just in black! Not a huge fan of the wheels (shape and colour!). Looking forward to a meet when you have the turbo. And feel free to let me know when you want to try a CAE.

  3. Absolutely to the meet and CAE...you don't happen to have CS fitted aswell do you? Wondering on the road ride.

The wheels I bought due to weight mainly but now they're growing on me and make me smile to see this flash of vivid blue

  4. No, I have some Carbon buckets fitted in mine, as it's not really meant for daily usage. I think I'm on the other side of the M3, so not a million miles away. Let me know when would work for you.

  5. Oh good effort there! I have looked at some myself but need the back seats for now. I used to have Cobra Imola somethings that were kevlar and then Suzukas which were carbon..so damn sexy!

  6. If you want to try the setup before buying the CAE let me know!

  7. Yes, absolutely! If you're free this Sunday for a coffee maybe? Failing that next Sunday and you can check out the stage 2?

  8. This Sunday I am abroad racing, so I think that's a valid excuse! Sunday April 2nd would work though!

  9. Looking good Mark!

  10. Love the colour combo of the wheels with the car. Blue goes quit well with the black. Only change i would do is the caliper colour, black or blue, that will be very different from the rest

  21. Update from KTR today. Work complete and power is up from 288hp and around 340lb/ft to 340hp and 440 lb/ft @ 1.83bar.

  25. Apparently the cars either make hp or torque...never really both. Looks like mine is a torque monster which suits me fine on track

  26. Would be really interesting to see proper graphs of the power delivery.

  27. I'll get proper before and after print outs when I collect the car but for now..

Wow, that's a lot of torque and boost through stock components

I'd rather have less torque and more power on track, spend more time at the top end and its kinder on components LOL

  30. I'm a shorter shifter and a bit lazy though  I'm sure I won't grumble either way! Will see what the figures etc are properly on Saturday. I did ask them for safe/reliable.

Id be quite concerned about running that much torque tbh but that's just me

  32. What's the known limit based on consistent failures? Maybe I need to go forged then

No one's actually pushed it to fail but my old engine bent rods at a lot less torque than that. Generally considered to be around 390/400, I'd be surprised if the stock clutch will take that torque as well, one of the Tom's is running 400 plus from Ktec and gets slip and low ram and high gears

Forged isn't too expensive, rods and use stock pistons and you'll have a lump that will take North of 400

  34. Lovely photos

  35. Car seems good so far (not driven it that much). There doesn't seem to be any clutch slip at all and in 4th gear on the pull is very progressive and smooth.

  36. Hi Mark, looking at the torque curve I now understand where the high 440ftlb comes from, they’re ramped it right up at 3500 RPM but then you have the quite steep slope down, the other alternative and more preferable IMO is to have a flatter ‘curve’ which isn’t so high initially but then is maintained for longer. A happy compromise would be circa 360-370ftlb but a nice flat curve across the rev range.

That does peak and drop off quite considerably, I peak at 385 then hold over 350 right to the redline that's also increased only running 1.65bar as well

Power drops off as well, not trying to rain on your parade as I'm sure it does go well, those curves just don't look that great, I make peak power pretty much at the red line as well

  39. Mark, you've got the hardware now therefore why not take a trip to ED to get it mapped properly, you could pop in for a cuppa on the way.

  40. Mark, Jamie thankyou! I do appreciate the comments and thoughts. The car seems fine but if ED aren't far away and they don't charge the earth...I'll give them a call and see what they reckon?
