R26 Servicing - gearbox and diff oil

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by adR26am, Dec 13, 2013.

  1. I cannot see recommended intervals for these in the service book, what would they be and what would the best oils be?

  2. Elf 75-80

    Motul 75-80

I do mine every year , doesn't cost much and can't do any harm

But i think every 4 - 5 years would be fine

  3. It's not on the service schedule, so Renault thinks it's for life and you don't have to change it. But it's recommend you change it every 4-5 years, especially due to the diff.

I've recently put Motul 75W80 in and haven't noticed any significant change from the Renault's original ELF Tranself NFJ. I've later heard recommendations for Castrol Syntrans (formerly TAF-X) as the best gearbox oil for RenaultSports.

  4. Castrol syntrax is definently one of the best for your gearbox. You notice a huge difference, especially in the cold. Go for it

  5. Same oil for diff and gearbox? Are they integral?

  6. Can someone bung a link up to where to buy that Castrol Syntrans in the right grade for the r26 pretty please! Or just the grade and I'll see if opie oils do it...

Give me a pm, ill sort you some oil

  8. Haha cheers Mark, fancy adding that to the list for April? :tongueout:

  9. I usually use Castrol lubricants and on their website I noticed they recommend Syntrax Universal Plus 75W-90 for the car, but the OE Elf is 75W-80? Is it ok to use this slightly thicker oil?

    Thanks,
    Martin

  10. I'm going to be ordering some oils for my cars service in two weeks, can anybody answer this?
I assume they part of the same unit and share a reservoir, but I am more used to RWD cars where everything is obvious and easily visible so want to make sure I check.

Also how many litres of engine oil and gearbox oil does an R26 take?

  11. Yes, diff is part of the gearbox. You'll need 2 liters of gearbox oil.

    The engine takes 6 liters.

  12. 6 litres? mine took 5L and that was it perfectly full

  13. 2.1 for gearbox and 5.4 for engine I thought.
Got meself Fuchs Titan Supersyn and Motul gear oil ready for next week.

Does anybody else notice with their meg that the diff is quite whiny? I know it's normal with a lot of FWD cars at low speed, but the car does it at most speeds. Wondered of it was normal because of the LSD, which definitely works.

  14. Well, yes... I buy 6 liters (should have been more precise) but there's always a bottle leftover for topping, if needed.

  15. My mechanic has never been able to get more than 2 litres (if that) in the gearbox...
