Check ESP light

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by jimboy2, Dec 12, 2013.

  1. Hello

the other night I pushed the loud pedal bit too hard in second and the wheels spun up. The exhaust made a Big Bang and then my engine light came on. Few seconds later the spanner flashed and check esp displayed.

I have the torque app and had a look at the faults and it said something like multiple cylinder misfires.

Turned ignition ion off and then back on and all is fine

so what happens? Is there anything I should get changed quick? Injectors swapped for cleaned ones? I'm not a mechanic so no idea where to start.

    Thanks all

  2. Sounds like you had a backfire, caused by a wrong air fuel ratio, could be too lean or too rich, not sure why it would throw up the check esp etc though, are you sure it wasnt check inj?
As could be you've got a bad wiring feed to the injectors? As i think if an injector is disconnected from the electrical system/ other problem it shows check injection

  3. it was was defo esp. Don't know why it would throw that error up from a backfire tho. Bit strange ain't it.

  4. Hi tonight I started the car and I have check esp, check abs with an orange spanner. After searching the net for a couple of hours could it be the brake pedal sensor needs adjusting or do you think maybe a sensor?

    Thanks, Jon

  5. Very strange, only thing i can think of is that when you wheelspun, it may have knocked a sensor loose temporarily or something,
I don't think the torque app can read the ESP ecu don't suppose you've got an RSTuner/clip or know someone local who does?

  6. Could be either fella, only time i've had that is when i disconnected my ECU and it forgot the calibration of the steering angle sensor.

Have you driven it like this or just left it? Had the battery disconnected or anything?
I've read the brake sensor plays up along with the rear abs sensors

  7. I don't know anyone with one no. It's almost service time so will get RENTECH to have a look for me. I don't use it often enough to see how common it is either! It won't see the road now until Sunday for a drive to goodwood and that's is.
    Hopefully nothing too serious then

  8. Well today I have given the megane a lot of grief playing with M3s and TVRs on the way to goodwood SS and it didn't miss a beat. Very strange. Gonna get it serviced in the next month so will hopefully have a answer then.
Think I'm gonna get my injectors changed tho my MPG is so low and it idles a bit funny. Nothing major but I know it a known issue.
