R26 Engine Dynamics Short Shift

  1. Hi all, just a quickie. I've got my R26 booked in next Weds for timing belts, water pump, Aux the works at Ren7Oaks and was wondering if it's easier/ more cost effective to get them to install a short shift whilst this work is being undertaken as well?

    Also what do you think of this short shift linkage from Engine Dynamics, anyone got one? It's not a bad price and I need it before next weds.

    Edit: Found a thread re: this, it seems like the Andrew Jeff/boardy one is better, but I would need it before next weds. Either that or get the Ktec one, at least you get the entire actuator setup, bit pricey though.

  2. don't get the engine dynamics one...its to light,and will not shift the gears correctly.

    Just get the KTEC one if you need it quick..for one your original actuator will be getting tired now,so will make good sense to get it changed.
    Also,you can sell your old linkage to boardy to use for his own shortshifts to soften the blow to the wallet.

    As I said,the KTEC shortshift is a direct copy of mine..if you actually work it out its not to bad a price...The original part alone from Renault costs nearly £140.
     
  3. Cheers Andrew, yeah I see where you're coming from, do you reckon it will reduce labour cost if it's installed while in for a cambelt or make no difference?

    Seen all the reviews of your Short shift and it's overwhelmingly positive, same for the Ktec one and as it's the same then it's a winner.
     
  4. no difference really,as the actuator mechanism is on the other side of the block from the cambelt.
    but while the engines in bits,it would make sense..just make sure they are familiar with removing the actuator from the gearbox.

    battery tray bolts could be rusted in...that will need drilling out if unlucky.
    14mm locking bolt must be removed from the side of the gearbox casing...or the actuator will lift a inch..then stop.
    don't over tighten the 3 bolts that hold the actuator into the gearbox casing.
    make sure gearbox is in neutral!..or actuator wont come out..
