I posted this last night then deleted it as I thought against advertising the fact but it was seen, so anyway, here it is again. Basically a rapid downpour of hailstone caught me out along with 4 other vehicles that all did a similar thing after me, not much else to say on it really, gutted the cars gone but at least i'm okay. Something bigger and better coming soon
Sorry mate (both for the car and the 'seening') I was going to post on the original thread, that it looked more than just aquaplaning, as the vid was titled, but before I could click post, there it was - gone.
It does look it but theres nothing else to explain what happened, tyres were fine, no blow out nothing at all. Following on from me doing that there was a Z3 that did a 360 but avoided everything, a 3 series did the same as me and lost his front end, further up the motorway there was something in the hard shoulder with its headlights pointing my way, bit further on behind me one had come off the motorway completely and was in the trees and finally on the opposite carriage way a car on its roof on the hard shoulder. All that within about a quarter mile. The only thing that we all had in common was the weather.
Glad you're ok mate, cars can be replaced but people can't. Liking the look of the replacement anyway.
Scary how easy that looks to have happened, Damage doesn't 'look' to extreme, not financially worth it? I'm certainly no mechanic though!
I was all game for fixing it until I sat and thought about it, I'd have to spend more to fix it than it would be worth afterwards. May as well put the money towards something better.
Bet that was scary glad you are ok, think you had the disadvantage of no traffic in front of you helping to clear the water off the road and the aquaplaned
No doubt the grooves caused by the HGVs exacerbated things. Gutted for you bud but as Naith said, the replacement will be superb. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow! It seemed to scuttle a little before the bridge? Did you lift when it started to pull out? Slightly unnerving given I drive much worse conditions on a daily basis and at a higher rate. I can only assume the hail was building up under the leading edge and the tyres mounted it pulling you out. What tyres by the way? RS 175 Cup Lux
Yeah it did do a little wiggle before it let go, in the time from it staring to throw down I had two things running through my head, 1. Is that rain or hail and 2. Did my back end just twitch. I didn't get time to fully decide either unfortunately. Vredestein Ultrac Vorti, reviewed as a very good tyre as well.
I don't think it's the tyres, i have them on my SL55 and they were megga when driving in rain and it was that heavy could only see 25 meters and still doing 80 ish and not a twitch
happened to me years ago..freak hailstorm..went round a gentle right hander..and the car just went straight on into the barrier..Turning the wheel did nothing....it just went arrow straight..hit a lamp post!....immaculate series 1 RS Turbo wrecked..
I aquaplaned on the straight at Spa at 130mph,in my R26R/ spun several times, and by my fantastic driving ability, or sheer luck, missed the barriers both sides.
Gutting. Good that your ok though. So easily could have been hit by someone else out of control too. There's not a single thing you can do if your tyres aren't touching the tarmac. That was heavy weather. There's always another car. I was gutted when I lost it on wet diesel early morning in my first 172. The cup that replaced it has been sooo much fun.
Reaaly gutted for you, been there myself with another car. on the positive side think about the newer car you gonna get... And secondly your ok and that's more important than the car itself
I got nothing off it mate, the only think I took out was my Pioneer double din headunit (which won't fit in my new car) lol! So if anyone's after a double din, give me a shout. Thinking back eksodus did me two plates, one one a different colour, I'll have that about somewhere.
Cheers think other things are higher up the pecking order but have been looking at these after getting jealous of Lee's with reverse camera!
£200 and it's yours, I'll help you fit it. All you need it a new dab aerial and a reversing camera, I didn't do the camera but it can't be hard.
Gutter for you buddy. She was a beautiful car! Time to get your teeth stuck into the next project.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice upgrade! I'll just do my usual "If you ever swap the standard seats for recaros, I'll buy them!" plea. Wild rain where I live today, your thread kept coming back to mind going down the dual carriageway!
I'll remember that, there always the possibility. Yeah, I think I'll always remember that now, I'll be slowing down a tad in the rain.
Nice! Plus a dealer car too!! What's the output? Seriously though, for dervs the 175 isn't the best on mpg. Why do you expect out of the new car? I'd consider one if they could match 40mpg! RS 175 Cup Lux
