Looking for a bit of info on these tyres if people running them could help. Roughly how many road miles did they last for? Did they work well all the way to the limiters? Cheers
I'll get 7k road miles and a few trackdays out of my first set. Is your car a 275? The MeganeSport and GT3 were the two cars used by Michelin during the tyres initial development. Renault then developed a spec of Cup2 for the Megane. Simply put I love them. My car is not my only car and therefore I find the compromises generated by the tyres adds to the overall character. The ride is stiff, they scrub like hell on full lock and tyre noise is increased over the standard fit Sport 3s and Bridgestones. Standing water and below 6 degrees they struggle but they are always very predictable and communicative up to and over grip limit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's a 250. Currently running PSS which have been incredible but are no longer available in 235/40/18. They have lasted 12k miles with one track day. I won't be tracking the car an awful lot. Maybe twice max. I've got a trip to the alps planned in April and Scotland in June. I'd love something with the longevity of the PSS. PS4S aren't available in my size. Michelin are a brilliant tyre manufacturer so want to stick with them. The cup 2's seem like a fantastic road tyre for a sports car. A step on from the PSS. I've watched quite a few Evo videos on YouTube of various hothatches and sports cars which run the cup 2's and they all rave about them. I just didn't want them to be worn out after 5k miles. I'm guessing if I don't do the few track days that you've done Sam I could be looking at around 10k miles maybe?
I'd say it is unlikely you'll get 10k miles out of a set but not impossible. Bare in mind the Cup2 has between 5.5mm and 6mm of tread from new whereas the Yoko ADO8R has 8mm. For mostly road miles I'd be tempted to try the Yokos, although I've seen no data for wet stopping distances between the two....
Consider the NS2Rs too. Not the ultimate grip but super stable when hot and very long lasting. I am up to 6,500 inc 4 track days and I have only just rotated F and R
Some good advise. Cheers chaps. With the weather being so inconsistent in the U.K. I would want something that was only useable in the dry. There was a video of Chris Harris in a GT3 in wales during winter, around 5 degrees and damp, he was shocked with the levels of grip they found which appeals to me massively. Obviously a lot of standing water means oh can't drive quick on the road but if it's damp/light rain I still want to be able to push on a little bit. Does the cup 2 allow for this in other people's opimions? I'm going to do some research into the yokos and ns2rs also.
I was in two minds between the Cup 2 and AD08Rs last year, I'm not about to put my 3rd set of them on the car in the next couple weeks
Also, if your not going to do much in the way of trackdays, forget about Cups and get PS4s, they are a brilliant tyre, better road characteristics than cups and even the Super sports
More than capable, deep standing water can be a bit of an issue when they start to get low but that's to be expected of any tyre tbh. I've ran mine all year as the weather has never got bad enough this winter for me to feel the need to put my winter tyres on, even with Hybrid powers.
Ideally the PS4s is going to be the. Eat tyre for what I want from what I've read up on it. I'm just unsure of when the release will be in 18's. Or if they will full stop
That would probably be my choice if I knew I wouldn't track the car although people seem to like the Yokohama 105, what with there stiff sidewalls.
From past experience, what is the rough time after an initial release of s tyre in a certain size do the manufacturer bring out other sizes. The PS4S is 19-20 currently so debating on holding out for the 18's. I've been in contact with Michelin but can't provide anymore info. Although reading the press release for North America on the 4S, they state available sizes of 18-20...
I'd honestly just get some PS4s, they are on par with the PSS is not better. I'd be doubtful that the 4S is available in that size anytime soon
Also nobody's mentioned comfort (if it bothers you). All the trackish type tyres aren't as good as normal type for road driving; harder ride, more noise, more compromised, less life. I used a set of MPS3's recently and they made the car feel the nicest it's ever felt on the road as it usually runs track tyres. They were still quick on track, very competitive at a sprint and didn't fall apart despite a lot of abuse
There obviously has to be compromises. With it being a cup and already on h&r springs the comfort side isn't a massive issue. Main things I'm looking for are longevity and all round performance but very good dry performance. It's a bloody mind field haha if the super sports were still available it would be a no brainer. I reckon I have a few thou left in the current tyres so I might just try to hold out for the 4S. Failing that I think the 4 is a good option for me. All the advise it's much appreciated as always
