250 Which coilovers?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Krissg, Feb 2, 2017.

  1. Hey.
Looking for coilovers for the rs250, any recommendations what people are using?
    Thanks

  2. That very much depends on usage.

  3. Most cars have a generic go to setup, just want a decent all rounder.
Its my daily car but i lile them low. Il be doing a few track days also.

  4. For a daily, have a go on the stock cup suspension.
Firm enough, good enough compliance (very good actually for something stock). Lowering springs may help to a certain degree.

Just for looks (not meant in any bad way), I wouldn't go down the route of everything new. That said, others may be able to give you some better info for your purpose!

  5. I've just bought some Nitron R1 for my 250, Havent been fitted yet though hopefully they're as good as people say. My 250 is just for track use though only road miles it see's are a run up the bypass now and again to give it a dust off in between track days (I have only had it a month and done about 20 miles in it)

  6. Ye i know the stock setup cup setup is supposed to be decent but i have altitude issues so like it low.
Was looking at BC or the KW...

  7. I've run the BC coilovers on my track clio before I bought the Meg and they were excellent other than that I haven't used anything else.

  8. Ye iv used BC before but different cars and owners groups alike seem to suit different brands and setup.
    Also considering the bilsteins

Probably need stiffer springs and helpers the stock setup is a bit on the soft side for track

  10. As mentioned above depends if your gonna use it more for track or on road. I only use my car at weekends for B road blasting and the occasional track days in the year. I really liked how the Megane handled on the cup suspension just not the look of the 4x4 ride height.

So I decided on the b14 bilsteins after doing some homework on the internet! And I'm so glad I bought them I've only had them for a few weeks but the stance of car and the way the car drives is just perfect for me and there great value.

  11. Awesome dude. You got any pics of how your bilsteins sit?
They would be the choice i think..

B14s are a good kit for more road use, much better with adjustable topmounts to get some much needed camber though. I found they get out their depth on track with heavy track use though I had a couple of scary moments charging into the fuchsohre last year on them, I wouldn't say they are that much quicker if at all over the stock setup tbf does make the car look alot better lower mind you, feels faster but the datalogs I have don't back that up.

  13. Just had a look and they only drop the car 30mm. Id want a bigger drop than that but still a decent track focused setup.
So what set would i need to look at to get camber adjustments etc.?

They drop the car more than that. Lower isn't better anyway.

Theres various adjustable topmounts that work with the Bilsteins anyway.

  16. Its just personal preference but id like the abilty to have them low. Thats the beauty of adjustability though. Low for show raise it for the track.

They drive wank when overly low LOL

Id be looking at the B14's, Or some KW V3's with adjustable topmounts, I'd say Clubsports are maybe a bit overkill for your needs?

  18. Jamie, that bottom picture, where is it? Reminds me of Stonehaven! The other one is it Loch Lomond? Car looks ace btw!

  19. I'm. gonna give them a go and see how I find it then once it's all stripped out probably put some stiffer springs in with helpers, I'm not a mega quick driver so hopefully I'll be holding the car back rather than the othrr way round. lol

  20. There seems a big price diffetence between the B14 and kw v3 so id probably take the bilsteins. Seem well used just as long as they drop enough

  21. Jamie, how much adjustment do you have left in yours?

Still has around 10-15mm of thread left on mine at that height, Mine is stripped out as well so id imagine a full interior car would sit a bit lower also.

Close haha, Its up Glen Etive just 10 miles or so from Glen Coe, Not far from where Skyfall was filmed.

Theres another guy, Tom running them and he found them way to soft so is going stiffer and helper springs once he decides what rates to pick

  24. Beautiful place. I was still in my teens when I moved there for my first job, stayed in Stonehaven whilst working in Inverness. Lived in Glasgow for 8 years, learnt all my bad driving habits at Knockhil and Crail. Seeing your pics makes me really want to go back.

Sorry for completely off topic nostalgic post!

Re suspension, it might be worth having a look at that Swiss company, they sell lowering springs to work with the standard shocks and also supply some stuff that give some negative camber. I'm sure it's good but it's bloody expensive!

You'd probably be as well just getting a KW kit or similar for the money.

Purely for cosmetics it'd probably be fine just with lowering springs if you don't mind the reduction in ride quality.

I use a set of ridiculously expensive AST 3 way race suspension on another car and just don't think it's worth it

  25. Aesthetically springs wont cut it and i still want it to be setup to be capable on the track. Looking at some b14,s currently.

  26. just had H&R coilovers fitted to mine and dropped it around 40mm, feels a hell of a lot stabler just general driving and virtually no body roll, and very comfortable over bumps in the road etc, cant comment on how they perform on track yet.

I would seriously consider H&R kits in general on any car, they seem to engineer them as a package and the ones I have seen use Bilstein monotube dampers so you get a top quality damper to go with the springs.

  28. I was also thinking about which set to get and finally bought Bilstein B14 kit for meg250 and will be getting adjustable top mounts (i bought new coilover set from germany for 560E) that was too good price not to buy it

  29. I also have the B14's. These bilstein shocks are a lot better than the stock suspension. They don't have the best ride quality, but as speed increases so does ride comfort.
