    Hi Space cadet
I ran RC6's okay and still do and they are great from cold, better than standard pads, trying RC8's next

Any garage should be able to do a fluid change, they should have a generic machine for opening the ABS valves, that would do that job on almost any car.

  2. Interesting, thanks Ian, I tried them on a Clio 200 (with the Brembo calipers) and it sometimes wouldn't stop at the end if my drive...!! perhaps it was just that the Clio was lighter and couldn't get heat into them fast enough. If you are certain they're fine for cold road use on the Megane then I'll definitely use them over the 5+'s.

I don't think they did 8's when I last used CL's, presumably they are even more aggressive? Would be interested to know what they're like from cold once you've fitted them.

Thanks regarding the fluid, it's on the job-list, just have to find the time to take it somewhere....

  3. Does anyone know if the exhaust trim can be carbon dipped?

I have just come back from the midlands, it pissed down most of the way back so the brakes were stone cold and i still have to be aware to not panic brake.

I ordered a set of RC8's from Kam racing and after 5 days i phoned them as i had not had a delivery and the said they had to order them from Carbon Lorraine, should have gone straight there, said they don't sell that many
Just waiting for the 6's to wear out (next track day) then they will go in :sunglasses:

  5. I remember being told 'don't remove the heater' and I thought...what do they know? A lot it turned out. I've never had a bike although I appreciate the machinery, stick to cars and come racing with me

Not bought the CAE yet, going to get it in black though (obv). I sat in a Meg with one in and it actually just looked so so right.

So you're sticking to stock discs and just better pads? No braided lines? Me being me, I've already been eyeing up the 2 piece kit to save unsprung weight. I've heard a LOT of people using the Carbon Lorraine pads, have you tried Pagid RS29s? I've used them before and they're sensational but not cheap!

I'm with you, no way am I cocking about with bleeding brakes if it's a pain in arse job. I'll fit the CAE, fit an intercooler etc but not the mundane stuff. Fluid wise what have you used? I've used ATE, AP Racing and most recently Castrol SRF...I think the Castrol is bloody good but £45 iirc for a small bottle.

I've just bought some black headlights on Ebay...no hope for me.

  6. It's plastic, if that helps? Personally I'd just paint the thing with cans...take about 10 minutes and impossible to screw up.

really good job tyres are black

  8. Embrace the dark side I say  Colour is overrated anyway!

I might have to disagree with you there having an Orange car, but i do have black tyres though  so nearly there

  10. That's how it starts..next up you'll have black soot in the exhaust.

Bugger i have seen some of that :sob:

  12. Thanks Ian. Good news regarding the 6’s, I will definitely fit a set when I get around to it. And regarding the 8’s, like I say let me know once you’ve fitted them, would be interesting to get some real-life feedback.

Will do, probably will have then fitted for Silverstone :sunglasses:

  14. Yes but it saved kg’s!!! Wasn’t one of my best moves and was what turned it that step too far regarding being remotely useable on the road.

Bikes are a different concept, truthfully I just enjoyed owning them and being able to get up on a Sunday morning for a couple of hours ride (pre-kids!), even my ‘top of the range’ Ducati’s’ were cheaper than a basic hatchback car so the performance per £ is unbelievable.

Be warned, I think it will set the ball rolling and you’ll end up turning it into another Clio track-car. The MTECH kit really improves not only the throw but the feel of the change (it’s slightly more notchy when cold until it’s warmed up).

From what I’ve heard on here braided lines don’t make much difference but if I’m paying for a full bleed then for the relatively cheap cost will stick some on then.

Never used Padgid I think (possibly when I had some Porsche brakes on a Golf GTI), apart from the Alcons on the 172 which had PF pads of various compounds/torque characteristics I’ve always used CL pads. It’s just one of those things that if you find a brand you like and never have problems with you always keep using – like Samsung TV’s!!

Well stick some photos up when/if you do fit the CAE!

TBH I can’t remember what fluid I’ve used in the past, but this time will follow Nick’s advice. RBF 600 I think it was. But may be its worth using 660 for the odd few £ more.

Ooohh have you, how much did you pay?? Have they anymore??

  15. If you compare the temp for 600 and 660 I think the 600 actually has a higher temp for one of them. I think the 660 obviously has advantages but it may require changing more often but not too sure

  16. Thanks Nick, hence why you probably previously recommended the 600.....

  17. Morning Mr. Cadet.

Today is the day! I'm like my 8 year old bouncing around the house asking myself 'is it time yet?'

I can totally appreciate the bike thing, maybe one day I'll join that bandwagon but as I don't know what I'm missing, cars scratch my itch.

I asked KTR to fit a CAE yesterday but they have none in stock and a 3 week back order! The MTech sounds like a perfect upgrade but I've set my sights on the CAE now damnit :worried:

The headlights I bought were Depo (had them on my Golf R32 and was impressed with the quality) they cost 132 quid each side from Ebay. I can dig out a link if you like? Will post up pics today of the car and of the lights when they arrive around the 13th.

  18. Well, where are the photos??!!

If KTR haven't fitted the CAE then why not go down the MTECH route, keep it standard looking and save a few pennies...??

Would appreciate the link please and definitely some close-ups of the lights.

  19. Morning!

I need better pics I know...kids have already trashed it inside :worried:

Linky for the lights, I'll get plenty of pics of them before and after etc. Today I'm going to remove the exhaust surround at lunch and spray it up also.

  20. Very nice!! It looks spitting-image of mine, bar the silver handles - get those sprayed ASAP!

I've just the normal Renaultsport seats but actually they're really supportive.

Will have to wait until I'm home to view the ebay link but thanks anyway.

I'm debating painting the rear callipers black, I think they look odd red, especially as they're just normal 1-pots rather than anything special.

  21. Thankyou, strangely I like the silver handles!

Scrap that link, the seller mailed me today to say they're LHD only...link below that I've gone for instead (cheaper too).

  22. I had a white Clio 200 Cup and it had silver handles, so presumably it’s a “CUP” thing. Although my slighter later 2011 250 Cup dos’nt!?. Its obviously your call, but I thought we were going for a black theme here….

Thanks, will take a look tonight.

  23. Thankyou for keeping me focused, speaking of black theme...

    Silver handles denote keyless entry

  26. Looking great. What paint did you use on the exhaust trim? Have you any pictures of it fitted?

Oh and my 265 has black handles and keyless.

  27. I had some paint in the garage from previous projects, I just keyed the surface then gave it 4 coats of Halfords Gloss Black and 4 coats of Plasticote metal flake clear (didn't have any normal clear lacquer). I'll cut it back and polish it tomorrow and stick it on the car and send you some picture.

  28. Looking good there! It's now on my to-do list!

  29. Thanks for the link. Are Depo the manufacturers of the oem headlights? I keep seeing their name everywhere online, otherwise who makes the oem lights?

  30. Great car(s)

  31. Thanks Nick, the Merc doesn't get used that much these days...bought it new in 2015 and did 8 track days in it, modified it and now I want to cherish it

  32. Evening Mark,

Not sure who makes the OEM lights, Depo are to my knowledge an after market manufacturer...just a better known one I think. There are Magneti Marelli lights on Ebay which will be OEM quality but they're nearly £300 the pair.

  33. I'll happily cherish it for you if it needs a run.

  34. Are you local to Surrey Nick?

  35. Not far - I live on the Sussex coast and work in Horsham (for now).

  36. Where are the photos of the black exhaust surround fitted.......?????

  37. Thanks

  38. So you can also ignore that link aswell!! I got a call from them that they had no black, only chrome. So I went with a third option from Germany (who sell cheap ones and expensive ones). I went for the cheap ones and they're in transit so hopefully will be here soon

  39. Just for you, because I too am impatient (are you an only child?) I went out IN THE RAIN and fitted the surround hah!

  40. Fellow GOW - that looks great! What a difference for the better! Its looks like it’s going to be poor weather over the weekend therefore I won’t be able to finish machine polishing the car, so that will be a nice little job to do.

….. you forget to remove the RS badge though…!!

On a side note, I’ve bought a set of the black TPI wheel bolts…. £30-something inc postage for 20!! They look really good quality and the black coating (I think it’s kind of anodised) looks and feels really hard wearing. My old ones were all rusty anyway and I don’t need locking bolts therefore just went for 20 normal bolts. Perhaps a nice little purchase for you to also make!?
