Hi all, I have a stock 250 and would like a bit more grunt from it. I really like how reliable it is and wouldn't want to ruin it! It'll be used on track, how does running more power affect things like temperatures, clutch life or any other components that would be more prone to failure as a result of the extra grunt? I'd like to keep it as standard as possible, keeping stock exhaust/filter/cat what sort of extra power could I expect with a mild hike in boost?
Unless your going Hybrid or bigger turbo you wont have any issues with Clutches or reliability, They can take a fair bit more power over stock on OEM internals. Im over 100bhp and 120ftlbs up on stock figures now and could probably push it a bit more safely. A basic map will see up towards the 300 mark will torque anywhere from 300-350ish, Every Megane tunes differently. I'd personally be sticking a decent FMIC like the Wagner one on it though just to help keep IAT's low and the power consistent.
I believe it is as it uses the IAT sensor and correlates to the same numbers as my data logger/scanner.
Thanks again Jamie. Hoping whoever tunes it would be able to tune it to the limits of the stock intercooler. Does an uprated Wagner unit require any cutting or mods to fit? Cheers
Nope bolts straight on. It will be fine without the FMIC by all means, Id just be sticking a more efficient cooler on it to keep things cold though.
Just called rstuning. Very useful phone call, they confirmed the oil temp shown on the monitor is calculated and that the intake temp display is correct. They recommended an inter cooler and stage 1 map, would cost about 1200£, could do it in a day. Would make about 300bhp with a lot of torque and all standard stuff ok for that level. Was hoping for a £500 remap then leave it at that. The cooler makes a lot of sense. So would getting the car lowered. And then?? Ffs I'm doing exactly what I promised I wouldn't and thinking of modifying... Argggghgg!
Sure I've seen that some plastics need cutting to fit the Wagner. Nothing major, but still a bit of a re-trim
Ah my bad, Just read mods to fit. My Airtec needing the plastic shroud timing, I assume its the same for most of them, a 10 sec job with a sharp blade.
That's a good result, are you happy with how it drives after? Any problems? They're much closer to me but I've seen some mixed reviews so hadn't considered using them. Their prices are good though, especially for cam belt change.
I'd say get a midbox chop and a bmc air filter. It will sound more aggressive and slightly louder, it'll add to the experience and make it feel faster. Stage 1 remap aswell ofcourse.
Looking to get my 250 mapped soon. Have a turbo back exhaust already and a KTR induction kit. Will be looking to get an intercooler too. What's the max power you can get from a 250 with the standard injectors and turbo?
@Michael I spoke to Paul at RS Tuning and he said I should get 320bhp with the mods I got already plus an intercooler. How much torque will I get from a map?
I've had no issues at all and it drives great. Been on trackday no issues with temp and went really well.ktr are really good very helpful.
Thanks for suggestions. I'm keen to leave it as standard a poss, I know they sound much better but a lot of the tracks I use are strict with noise.
Lol I get that smell as well. Got a cat back and decat. I quite like the smell of petrol, doesn't bother me. Haven't had the car mapped yet so it's running slightly rich at the moment
Track regulations are not a problem with only a midbox chop, there are stock cars that are alot louder out there.
