K-Tec Half Cage - Group Buy. Just gauging interest

Discussion in 'Car Parts For Sale' started by Flatout, Jan 16, 2017.

  1. As per title, looking to get a half cage from K-tec. They sell the half cage for just over £1k fitted and full for £1.8k fitted.

As many track their cars on here, was wondering if anyone was interested in jumping onboard and see if we can get some form of discount.

Haven't spoken to them as key about a group discount. I've only sent an email for just my car.

If anyone is keen then just put your name down below and we can see what they offer.

If we can get to 5 that would be an absolute dream..

Btw - their site says its a custom order part which would take 4-6 weeks..

    Cheers

Hate to rain on your parade, Thats silly expensive.

You can get proper custom half and cages built for a lot less than that, FWIW its around £500 up here by Scott McMinn for a full custom rear and 1k for a full inc dash removal

  3. Would probably cost me the saving I make to come up from South..

Plenty other custom cage people, The guy that done Matt West one was cheaper as well, GDF Steelworks.

Loads of places, GDF, SW Motorsport, Nickson etc etc. Plus they will be a proper spec weld in/bolt in. I dont think the Ktec ones are all that....

  5. Can get custom half cages for £400-500 fitted as stated above.

  7. Right - I've decided to go with k-tec for this.

Will put up pics of the before and after. Car not due in until early March, so some way away..

  8. So why did you decide to go for the ktec if others do it for half of the price? Is it lighter or better quality or something?

  9. K-tec is the last place I would get a cage from for the meg 2, as already said sw were going then for £660
There is also a lad on Facebook called Tim finch was doing full cages for £695

  10. My views is that cheaper is not alway the best way to go. K-tec seem like a well established business so that gives me lots of comfort that if something isn't done correctly I can alway have a conversation with someone to get things put right.. I will be paying by credit card so that gives a whole host of protection...

The guys came across very well over the phone - I've ordered lots of consumables from them, brakes pads, fluids, etc. Delivery is within days, so to me that's great customer service.

I'm sure I'd get it cheaper elsewhere, but downside risk remained in my view, so that's how I came to my decision. They also give me a courtesy car for the week as I'm having a number of other things done at the same time. This is a massive plus for me as I live a fair distance from them and it would be a nightmare getting there and back by train....

  11. Mines a 3 275 trophy.

Have you had any bad experience with them?

  12. No never had a bad experience with them, quite the opposite, very helpful both before and after map for me, just the price for the meg 2 cage was a higher than most other places, didn't realise you were talking about a meg 3

  13. Also with the added bonus of the courtesy car they seem to again be offering brilliant customer service so definitely wouldn't turn nose up at them for that, if your having other bits done there then it's a no brainer

I wouldn't even trust the cage tbf it bolts to original mounting points with no spreader plates, not for me thanks.

  15. Have you seen one of their cages? I haven't so hard to comment, will post pics once they've done the work...

ISTR there made up in Frome, Somerset by Caged Laser Engineering who do some super high quality work such as the chassis for the BAC Mono. OTOH the pictures I have seen of their half cage look a big no no, front legs sat at an angle on the carpet, rears using the rear set upright mounts, would like to see the front feet bolted to spreader plates or just welded down. I have seen a car with their full MSA cage and that looked really good just a crazy price for a basic 6 point bolt in cage.

K-tec are 20 mins from me so I have used them for service which was OK.

  17. Got mine booked in at Andy Robinson for a half cage, costs a lot more than most, which he informed me. He designs & build`s cages for Mclaren F1`s , so i think he might have some idea of what to do.
