Death of a 275 Trophy :-(

  1. Start doing your homework. They tend to start unrealistically low as most people don't negotiate and take their offer. You should suffer no financial detriment whatsoever in theory, apart from the excess of course.

  2. Thanks for that Nick, rang the insurance company (privilege) today and found out that the car has stood in the recovery yard since Monday... nobody has chased it up and nobody has even rang me to update me! So it won't be looked at until after the weekend now so basically a whole week has been wasted for nothing!

  3. I've had a cat b back before - I just had to provide my insurance company with the certificate of destruction after it got scrapped.

  4. Did u just ask them about buying it back then?
I suppose I'll know for certain next week (assuming they get their act together)
Be nice (financially) to get it back and also to give its parts a good home!

  5. Yeah said I wanted it back, they said I couldn't as it could never go back in the road due to the structural damage.
I had to negotiate/ be persistent though before they let me have it on condition I provided the scrap certificate

  6. Cheers for that, I'll have an ask - nothing to lose!

  7. Jeez....glad to know you're ok. Did you have winter tyres or the standard cup 2s?

In my car wearing PS4s, i hit a patch of black ice on a mini-roundabout/island and the back end tried to ambush me.....definitely wasn't scary (new pants needed!!!)

  8. Brand new Eagle F1s (been on the car a few weeks)
To be fair it was just really unlucky that a short snowfall had just happened and it was -2 and I was the first one to drive over the untouched snow / ice. I've got another 3 days wait until the inspection takes place on my vehicle now which will take it to 2 weeks since the accident. Frustration is setting in! I'm on the look out for a cheap diesel runabout until I decide on my next car...:pensive:

  9. Do you not get a courtesy car?

  10. sorry mate...this was a while back and I cant remember...I had to badger the insurance company though to get them to release the car..

  11. If they were repairing the car I would be, but as it's been written off I'm not. I've complained about the complete lack of service and been offered £70 and then £90 (as I declined the £70) as compensation and they've admitted making mistakes that have delayed the process. I've told them I'm waiting until it's all finalised before accepting any compensation, but really I just want it all sorted as smoothly as possible. Not a single call or update about my vehicle in 11 days has been really poor

  12. Sorry to hear that it's gutting. If you do break it I'd but your gearknob off

  13. Glad you're ok, that was quite a smash.

When my Megane 250 was damaged a couple of years ago everything took ages. My damage wasn't anywhere near as bad as yours though, I had a smashed passenger door and rear quarter , and the side and seat airbags went off inside.

They decided to repair mine, but then took 4 months to source a replacement roof liner (needed as the airbags rip though the liner). I wished they'd just written it off, and if they'd known that they would have as the courtesy car costs were as much as the repair bill!

Good luck though, you'll easily get that written off and into something else once it's all sorted.

  14. Cheers for that, 4 months of courtesy car costs would have been quite impressive!

  15. Got my offer from insurance company - £18,460
My GAP company are happy with that offer and it's starting to move forward (at last) I've asked the question re: buying it back and I'm awaiting a call back from a different department. I was initially told they don't sell vehicles back to customers but when pressed they've told me someone else will need to make that decision. If I can't buy it back I'll try find out where it's going and you can all fight it out for what's left of my poor little Megan :-(

I've had many private messages from people on here so please don't think I'm being ignorant not replying to you all, it's just easier doing one post.

    Stay well

    Pete
