Michael's OG RS250 Cup

Discussion in 'Megane Projects' started by Michael, Aug 2, 2015.

  1. Now I have the 250, and since I have a few plans for her, I thought I'd make a thread here.

My car history is somewhat varied and includes,

    E36 Compact 318ti
    Toyota EP82 Turbo
    E46 330ci
    Mk IV Golf VR6 Highline
    Focus ST-2
    Toyota MR2 Turbo Rev3
    Seat Leon Cupra K1

So Renaultsport's are a new chapter for me and so far I can tell that the Meg RS250 is different league to any of the hot hatches I've had before. Since getting rid of my K1, I've been hankering over a 250/265. I saw my 250 on AC at Warrington and I just had to have it.

So the car. It's a 2011 Megane RS250 FF with Cup Pack and full leather Recaro's. I wanted LY initially but the OG is really growing on me.

With the Cup pack with LSD, the 250 is hugely capable 'out the box', but future plans so far are,

    Middle Silencer Box Chop
DIY CAI using a decent filter
    Bigger FMIC
    Decat or Sports cat downpipe
    Remap (likely RS Tuning)
Something to address the ride height
    A few cosmetic changes

Here's some pics of her when I picked her up...

Prior to picking the car up, it was treated to a service and new discs/pads all round. On the drive home however, I was getting a noise from the drivers side rear and it would appear that the Calliper was sticking once hot. So she went back to the dealer to have the issue looked at. I was told that it needed a full new calliper and the part had to be ordered from France and will be a week or so to arrive at the dealer. Gonna be a long week!!..... Especially as I've been put in a Silver Clio Tce as a courtesy car lol!!

Anyways, as the thread progresses feel free to leave comments and opinions.

  2. Nice motor mate and lovely colour, one of my favourites!

Place to start K&n panel filter £38 from the net, sounds better and improves throttle response.

My next mod will be the mid section delete for a slightly better soundtrack

RS tuning are the place to go for the remaps, guys are brill and the gains are incredible although seem to vary quite a bit depending on the car (meganes tend to differ a fair bit in terms of output, good old french engineering hey)

Some people say just replacing the springs with lower ones will trash the dampers and recommend going for coilovers which start at arounbd £600 for a decent set. H&R springs 40mm drop are £150 so good value but id be concerned about the extra strain on the dampers.

Airetec intercooler is also a good choice but around £500 is quite a bit and isnt needed for RS tuning to perform the stage 1 map.

  3. Cheers Ben, thanks for the advice and OG is really grown on me now. Love it!!

  4. A little update. These arrived a while ago from eBay.

    So while I was at it, I decided to remove the M E G A N E badging

It came off pretty easy, just used some string and a hair dryer.

All off. And I know, I have a handsome pair or paws.

Prior to any polishing I wad happy with how little gunk it left behind

    Black Diamonds on...

Over the moon with the difference it makes especially to the rear of the car. Looks so much better now. Such a simple thing to do!!

  5. Until I decide what I'm doing with the induction side of things, I decided to remove all the foam to see what the fuss is all about. Firstly, for the car having just been serviced prior to my purchase, it doesn't look as though the air filter has been replaced. Anyways, off with the battery cover to give access to the screws.

Screws off and out with the filter. Dirty filter that needs replacing I think!!!

    Here's the foam in situ

It was held in mainly but wee plastic prongs. Slides out in a one pretty easy really

Here's what the inside of the air box looked like with all the foam removed.

I then took the car for a blast. I'll be honest, I couldn't notice a huge difference. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it's still quiet, yiu can hear it when you throttle off a little more but that's all really. To be fair, most of my previous cars have had CAI kits so my be I was being a little too optimistic!

Next on the to do list is to tidy the engine bay up!

  6. After the filter replacement I noticed a small improvement in the immediate throttle response, but your right not much else lol.

Removing the soundproofing made the intake noise more aggressive which I like, especially when you lift off and hear the turbo waste gate

For the engine bay a decent quality toothbrush is a good start

  7. Hello Mate, car looks lovely. Just picked myself up a white 250 cup last weekend. They are amazing cars.

Looking at your issue with the rear caliper sticking is funny because mine has had the same problem ! Its going in on Saturday to have the pads and caliper cleaned up as i think the pads are sticking. Looking at the foam in the airbox I'm wondering what its actually there for ?! thats coming out of mine tonight ! haha

  8. Cheers, gonna get scrubbing the engine bay for sure.

Really noticed a difference with the noise tonight, almost dumps now when you throttle off. Love it!

Thanks Tev, hope your caliper issue gets sorted, mine was a complete replacement in the end. Let us know how you get on.

Foam is soundproofing as far as I'm aware, doesn't actually serve a purpose.

  9. Update

Seriously need to pull the finger out with my 250! Budget is tight due to my imminent wedding. Anyways, a bit of DIY here...

    Cleaned, primer...

Then a few coats of paint, lacquer...

    Ebay special decal added lol...

A few fitted to the car...

Also added this decal to the front blade on the bumper, still not sure about it...

Still a lot of tidying up to do, but it's a start at least, cheers for looking!

  10. Went to a local exhaust fabricator this morning, Cal-tek Exhausts in Ayr. Chap seemed really decent, had a 172 Cup getting work done for track day prep. Anyways, this will be what the minor rattling is

Wee fix job done on that and got the mid box chop mod thingy done. I've got to say, I'm surprised at the difference! Much louder and pops and bangs constantly, anyone who isn't ready/willing to shell out for a full system should get this done, what a difference! Picture for attention...

  11. love the colour mate. just bought my first rs in yl. planning the same Mods too so will keep an eye on this thread

  12. Thanks. Likely to be a slow moving thread but I'll get there

Get some pics up in the welcome section, LY is a lovely colour!

Looks good Michael, OG look great when its clean!

  14. So clearly air filters not been changed, wonder what else they 'missed' you buy private or dealer

  15. Thanks Jamie, could do with a good detail now the decent weathers coming in.

Bobsan, I know I dread to think, it was AC so expect nothing less!!

  16. Sounds way better, sound check...

  17. Midbox chop? It does change the sound to way better compared with the stock, also cheap as chips to do.

  18. Yeah buddy mid box chop. Cost £50. Sounds awesome on spool up now!

  19. Club stickers. Massive update....

  20. You b******, this was the one I was going to buy before I got my Sport Yellow! I rang up the day after you'd bought it to place a deposit!

  21. Love that sound, shots fired!

  22. Just seen this lol! Sorry killjoypowerguy!

Really going to try and make some decent progress this year.

So currently she is running a mid box chop and an ITG panel filter. Went to a RR day in October at GI Motorsport and she made 262.2bhp / 256lb ft. Pretty happy with that, given their notoriously conservative dyno. Anyways, here's the graphs...

  24. Winter has been tough on the Meg, spent most of winter looking like this...

Even with just a wash and a bit of quick detailer, she comes up well. Love OG.

Decided to upgrade interior and VRM lights to LED ones. Not a great pic, but you get the idea...

Also bought these, I know I won't gain much, or anything at all over my ITG panel, but I'm a sucker for wooshes and chatter..

    KTR Blanking plate
    [IMG]

    Ramair Cone
    [IMG]

    MTC Intake pipe
    [IMG]

Not sure whether to fit these with a forge DV or not yet, still undecided but should be on soon.

Next was off to GI Motorsport again, this time for belt service.

    Cam belt
    Dephaser
    Aux belt
    Water pump
    Full service

Top job from the boys at GI. Looks like I'll be back soon for thermostat, drop links and wheel bearing.

Pads are also pretty near the end of their life. Only ever used OEM as I've not tracked so far but hoping to change that this year. Might stick with OEM at the rear but will upgrade the front and do the fluid too.

  25. Not sure if I saw this today in Bagshot?

    Anyway, nice car

  26. Nah wasn't me, I'm 400 + miles North of Bagshot lol

  27. Hey mate, which eBay site did you get your badge covers from please? Presume you're happy with them?

Car looks great by the way!

  28. Honestly can't remember mate. Just some random vendor on eBay.co.uk - I'm sure there was plenty to choose from

  29. Tidy car mate...I used to work with Andy from Gi when he was at Arnold Clark and he had mentioned a couple of OG megs that had been in. The other one had put a leg out the bed [emoji43], Where in Ayrshire you from?

  30. Yeah there is another OG 250 that kicks about Ayrshire, possibly running a hybrid? Didn't know it had spat the dummy out though!

I'm in Kilwinning but from Prestwick. I'm gonna take a stab in the dark that your in Kilmarnock?...

  31. Aye supposed to be running about 340/350 bhp I heard. It had been in at GI getting fixed.

Haha aye if you ever spot me out and about give me a toot of the horn. Have you decided if your putting that Ramair filter on? I've got a pipercross on mine...the difference in noise from the turbo is massive, I.e. Spool up and dumping

  32. Will do bud, I'm sure our paths will cross at some point :grinning: Yeah definitely going to put the cone on, just wasn't sure about the DV... Awesome, that's what I'm looking for, don't think I could run a turbo car without that spool up noise lol

  33. This arrived today from KTR. Should sound good with the cone filter
