Stripped timing belt, 225.

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Gprim225, Jan 3, 2017.

  1. So what would be required if timing belt had stripped? Still in situ but crank pulley looks as though it had failed due to excess movement.

So... new engine? Or nut pulley etc?

First thing will be a cylinder head removal, easier to pull the engine out, believe me it's easier, as you would have bent the valves, crank pulley has failed ??? i doubt it would be that that has caused the failure because it the clamps the oil pump drive, so you would have lost oil pressure and the engine would have seized.
Is the crank pulley in one piece ?????

  3. Not sure on full extent at all. Just a quick 1st inspection. Will have a better idea tomorrow once its had a good look over.

Not even had the car that long. Looks like this project is going to cost me more than I was initially looking to spent. Forged engine wouldnt be that bad I suppose.

It all depends on what you want the car for, a long block engine shouldn't cost that much, i picked up a 250 engine for less than a set of forge con rods and pistons.

I have known belts loose there teeth when they are old and have been left without use.

Rule number one, if you buy a car that has a cam belt, change it ASAP, i changed one that was supposed to have been changed 6 months earlier and it was starting to crack.

  5. Using it as a daily for now.. well I was before company car arrives for new job.

Want it as a track toy so bought it cheap. Cambelt was on my list of things to do as it hadnt been changed since 2010.
    Shouldnt have waited I guess.
