Hi all. Can you guys clarify what type of headlights I have on my r26? The reason for asking is ive been thinking lately that they're not particularly bright. New job has me on a lot of country roads and now it's winter, that means driving them in the dark and I'm not that impressed. Googling seems to suggest that they don't all come with xenons as I first thought. When I start the car and the lights come I can see them low and then raise up. The surround is a chromey/silver colour.
They have the black insert and do the auto self levelling so should be xenons, although the previous owner could have split them and painted them or fitted r26.r headlights i suppose (i dont think normal lights have an auto self levelling feature but not 100% sure) Near your right knee do you have an adjuster for the headlight level? If not they are xenons
They look like xenons. Maybe you need new bulbs or ballasts. Do the lights look a pinky/purplely colour, if so that means you need to change them.
I've got xenons on my R26, they're rubbish. They are absolutely brilliant for 30 foot, then nothing. Probably the worse headlights on any car I've owned. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
My R26 had the Xenons, and as above the aim seemed really low. That was with them adjusted correctly and everything, all working properly. Are you washers working correctly? The Trophy doesn't have either Xenons or washer and a couple of time this winter I've got out of the car to check that the bulbs were still working, such was the poor output. Having done so, I've found a thick, almost clay-like goop covering them, and the heat had made this go hard. This more or less totally blocks the light beam. I don't know what the hell they've been putting on the roads round here but I've never noticed this before. The heat deffinatly bakes it on, as two arcs mirroring the beam. On your pics above your lights look clean, but it was just a thought.
Tried to get a couple of pics on my way home tonight in the only spots that visibility wasnt near non existatnt due to thick fog. As you can see, the area it does light up is fine, but it lights up about 30ft in front of the car then it just stops dead. There could be a brick wall a further 10 feet away and I wouldn't have a clue. Bulbs seem fine too. Maybe it's just the way they are, light up an area well but just don't throw that light very far.
What happens is the reflective chrome bowl inside the light burns & it losses its shine output. I took my Dads 197 Xenons apart as they were bad too. I'm a Coach/bus mechanic & deal with a lot of light repairs on them. I modified some new Projector bowls in & now they are amazing. Until they go dull again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's pretty interesting. Could you maybe put a guide together or explain how you've done this - it could help a lot of people. Even just a method of spotting the issue and replacing as necessary would be great. Welcome along BTW. Get a welcome thread up
Mine are the same. Useless in the rain. I have to use my fogs which I've put a yellow filter over. This helps massively. RS 175 Cup Lux
That's the same view I get. I have pretty good distance eye sight and this is the first car I've owned that I constantly have to use the full beam. When I drive my wife's X5 at night the headlights give better performance than full beam on the R26 Xenons. Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
Mine are the same to. Fine for the first short distance, then nothing. Have to use my new led/drl fogs or "the force" some times or really go slow until oncoming traffic has passed.
Usualy a consequence of burned projector housings. The exact part of the beam disappears! Sent from my LG-H870 using Tapatalk
