R26 Gear shift cable replacement

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by SonicUK, Dec 19, 2016.

  1. I had to get the car recovered back from Snetterton the other week which was a bit of a shame after the gear stick went loose out of track.

I assumed it was just the cable attachment to the linkage under the battery as I'd had this come off before, so quickly stripped it down to re-fix, but much to my surprise both cables were still attached, which means it's either at the other end or the cable has snapped.

I've got some new cables coming just in-case, and I've had a quick look at the car, both under and inside the centre console, but it doesn't seem immediately obvious how to access the cables, and I can't seem to find any guides on how to change them?

Does anybody have a guide handy, or and helpful details on how to access and replace these cables if needed?

    Cheers!

  8. I really cant see it happening from the inside. Not possible on meg2 rs.. Had the box out from underneth 2 times. no way one could reconnect the cable or do anything from the inside.

  10. Any chance of the link to where you got the cables sonic, or was it just from Renault?

  11. Paul at RPD, £80 for both of them or thereabouts.

  12. That's what i was attempting to do on my back in the garage at Snetterton, but i could only move the heatsheild to the side to see the underside of the gearshifter, not actually remove it without also removing the centre section of the exhaust, which didn't want to come apart at all (no doubt due to having minimal space to work underneath the car on axle stands).
