Rs225 new owner with clutch issues

  1. Hi Everyone, my name is Jason and I was recently offered a lovely Blue 2 owner Megane RS225, at a price I could not say no to... The car is on a 54 plate with 58k miles and a FRSH, more paperwork than I have ever seen for a car with so little mileage... I have been driving it around for a few days and although its a bit different I love it. My everyday car is a beast of a car but this is just so much fun.. however, I have noticed a problem, The car drives very well but sometimes the clutch slips?? It only does it if I demand acceleration instead of gently accelerating, The clutch pedal is slightly low by about an inch or so and you can pull it back up but it doesn't stay there it feels like something is sucking it back down. The clutch pedal only seems to move a couple of inches too, There is no judder when pulling off or and slipping when initially pulling off, but I presumed the clutch would slip all of the time if it was going but it seems worse when the engine is hot. I drive a lazy mans auto everyday and I'm just getting back to manual gears again and I thought it was just me... Also I have been quoted £425 for the clutch kit and concentric to be fitted is this a fair price?? Even factoring the price of the clutch the car is still a bargain considering the condition / history etc. Any help or info would be greatly accepted and I thank you all in advance.

Hi Jason and welcome, where about's are you located
I also have a Merc AMG but have hardly driven it since i bought the Megane.

What was the problem with the clutch in the end, low fluid level ????

  4. I kind of know what you mean but this has the grin factor too, The diff went in my C32 and I took it to a specialist company and had a quaife built for it makes a hell of a difference, had remap and uprated charger pulley with removed silencer and de-catted. De-limited too, mine is running at about 425bhp:blush::blush:.

Anyway back to the Renault lol,,,, After looking at the fluid level and round the gearbox for leaks I could not find anything wrong, so I got into the footwell of the car and had a rummage around, but no leaks and everything looked fine apart from pedal sagging. I operated clutch pedal while I was down there and found the clutch pedal spring was actually prohibiting the return of the pedal to the stop crap design in my opinion.... I removed the spring and plastic holder and the clutch returned to the correct position. I have taken the car on a 30 or so mile drive around, driving normal and more spirited and it worked perfectly, not once did I have to lift the pedal back up to stop the slipping. The pedal now sits level with the brake pedal and doesn't slip at all. I put the spring back on just to see if it was coincidence and it went back to slipping slightly like you were resting your foot on the clutch while driving... so now it is off and is staying off! Will contact Renault when they are back open to see if they sell it and see what they say..

I changed the diff on my car as it was crap trying to pull away without looking like a hooligan, i also fitted a Quaife but mine was available from stock, i recon it's 4sec or less 0-60 now, but i love the Megane and drive it more, took my around the ring and then again in a hired R26r and the Megane was over 2 minutes quicker and that was with less than half the power, hence why i bought the Megane.

Something to look out for then if the clutch seems like it's slipping, thanks for the info.

  6. Well done that man. Extremely underrated car and i get everything trying or used to try and out run it. Midrange is savage. Motorway runs are the best as it isnt the most agile of cars. I've seen 165 on my clocks and then I realised if i was caught I was probably going to prison lol. I dont know whether to let it go or not though. But what do replace the besat with lol. And yes keep a thought for that spring in the future. I think this Rs225 is as fast as the 55 reg wrx it replaced just hasnt got the grip... which i prefer actually

I am going to sell the SL55 in the spring, i have done about 1400 miles in nearly two years, that will then give me some more funds for bit's for the Megane :sunglasses:

Impreza's ain't that quick on track
