2015 RS275 - Tapping into the RPM Wire

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by natep87, Dec 14, 2016.

  1. Hi All

Just wondering if anyone knows which wire out of the ecu or instrument cluster is the RPM wire that I can tap into for the boost controller and shift light.

I have called Renault and gone through the Dialogys system and still can't find a wiring diagram.

  2. It is more than likely a message on the CAN network. Which message ID I don't know.

  3. The engine speed is send to the dash via CAN. This is the setup I have for the shift lights.

  4. Thanks for your help, does this mean that you are just getting the rpm from between the ECU and the coil on plug connection?

  5. No. I'm receiving it on the CAN bus from the engine ECU which is transmitting it for other ECUs (such as the dash) on the car to use, decoding that signal and using it for the shift lights.

  6. Very interested in getting shifting lights like you have. Do have more details on which shift lights you are using and how you installed them?

I installed shift-I shift lights from Ecliptech in my MINI GP and that was just tapping from the back of the OBD plug (power, ground and tacho) and wire it through the steering column. Is it the same in the megane?

  7. The module I'm using is from GEMS and is the SL1 (http://www.gems.co.uk/?content=pages&id=sl1-shift-light-module).

For wiring it in you need to get power and ground from the OBD port, and then also use the CAN bus connection on the OBD and configure the unit to receive the relevant CAN message for engine speed, and where you want the lights to come on, and their colour.

  8. They have some great products...

Do you maybe remember which wires from the OBD port you are connecting to for power, ground and CAN bus?

I've searched google for hours but can't find any wiring diagram. I noticed that only 8 pins are connected to the OBD but still... I don't have the electrical competences to find it out by myself which ones to use :-)
