megane r25 limp mode

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by chumaxa, Dec 17, 2016.

  1. Ok I write this for my brother and his r25, recent problem, when engine warmed up, he goes full throttle, second gear and third fine buth then the car will go in a kind of limp mode but no engine light on the dashboard. the spark plugs have been changed, did not fixed it. The car is stage 1 with air box mod and the usual clip on the throttle body replaced. We have ordered an obdII reader but not received yet, but fact is no warning light on dashboard yet ...

It actually goes up in rev, but very slowly and very jerky.

Ok small update, apparently when he hits the limitor in 3rd, then he can hear a change of noise before the car goes to 4th and then is slowly and jerky. But if he does not hit the limitor, it is all fine.

  2. Forgive my ignorance but what is a r25?

  3. Its after the r24,but before the r26. Chumaxa, I am sure someone will on here to help you soon.

  4. The F1 team before the r26

  5. Ah, never knew that model had that name!
Anyway I'll get out of this topic now!

  7. If the engine isn't running properly, surely you wouldn't want to run it on the limiter??

  8. No that's the fact, it is all running fine, it is when it hits the limitor than then it is going to struggle on up shift, so you have to do it to notice it ... He knows how to drive and respect his car, no worries about that, that is not the question here ...

  9. Ok, and the car does NOT do it when avoiding the limiter? So still accelerating hard, but just shifting earlier to avoid limiter?

  10. Yes it would avoid the problem, which is fine, agree with you, but still it is not normal so need to dfind out

  11. No, of course. But would help eliminate the culprit.

  12. So, if it only happens after the hard limiter hit, and one has ruled out other sensors (as most of them would show up as an error), I'd be tempted to see if the car takes back timing after the hard limiter.

  13. The garage which remapped it thinks it is from the throttle bod, so we are going to clean it, and also check the sensors, and see ..
