250 Does anyone find the low beam on directional Xenons a bit lacking?

  1. I have the upgraded HID Xenons that move with the steering on my RS250.

Full beam is like daylight, really quite extraordinary.

Low beam is very crisp, clear light, it just falls, in my opinion a bit short. Works absolutely fine in traffic but I found it a bit lacking when driving at A-road speeds on a twistydual carriageway with lots of traffic coming in the opposite direction.

I consulted the manual and it would seem that with this upgrade, the headlight level adjustment is automatic.

Before I go and query this with a dealer, I thought i would check if anyone agrees with me...

    Thanks,

    Tom

The car will have auto levelling but all headlights will still have a basic adjuster built into the headlight cluster, look for some white hex sockets around the headlight. This is where they can be adjusted if it needs it.

  3. as above, i know what you mean, mine are the same but cant say it bothers me. i'd imagine if you adjusted them up you would get a load of people flashing you (a bit like when a range rover with xenons is behind you they are high up and can be quite startling)

  4. do you have standard springs still? as lowering can cause issues too. Have to say mine seem fine - all standard spring wise

  5. Thanks all, will check out the screws and maybe get used to it over the next few weeks.

No, my car has standard ride height.

  6. If it's self levelling, if you adjust the screws won't it just self level again?

  7. Nope self leveling works off two sensors on the front and back axle, all the screws do is the set what they level to.

  8. So why do they move up and down when you're stationary?

If anyone does do this can you line up against a wall, mark the top line of the light before adjusting and then repeat when you've adjusted?

  9. Just take it to an mot station or renault and ask them to set the level for you. A lot of new cars come with the beam set low and most of the time the mechanic that does the PDI won't check them. Chances are they are still pointing low

  10. Thats just the system setting once they are turned on. The auto system is to drop the headlights down when youve got extra weight in the back which causes the front end to point up, going up and down hills etc. they do twitch about when stationary, probably just self checking. All the screws are for is what the level is set at.

Yeh flat surface up against a wall, mark it and adjust. It should stop at that level.

This. Mot stations and the like will have the correct beam checkers to make sure you won't be blinding other drivers and likewise won't be pointing too low. Doing a DIY job isn't bright, excuse the pun.

  12. the beam should drop a 1/10 of the height in 10m, or 1/20 if 5m, so if headlight is 50cm from ground, at 10m it should be 5cm lower than at 0.
so go in front of your car and measure how high is the center point of the projector, then devide with 20 or 10 depending how far you can go with your car but still have it level, and mark on the wall a line from the ground at height - 1/10 of the height and adjust acordingly. that way it wont blind on coming people but give god visiabilyty.

    PS: sorry for bad english
