250 Amplifier with std head unit

  1. Is it possible??

  2. Yes, definitely BUT you need either:

A line output converter to change output of the speaker wires to RCA level. Something like an audiocontrol lc2i / lc6i etc

    Or

An amplifier that has inputs for speaker level wiring.

  3. I know this is a old post, but if you haven't done it yet, look at a pioneer gm-d1004 it's pretty much plug and play behind standard headunit with a auto leads adaptor, well easy to fit behind glove box

  4. Has this given you more quality, or just more volume?

Using this, the signal has still gone through all the electronics it would do normally, surely?

  5. A lot better quality and more volume, the amp also has filters, low pass, full range , high pass so can be set up to your requirements, I have mine in high pass as I also have a sub in the boot,

Basically with the head unit adaptor it takes the feed from headunit speaker outputs, into the amp then your standard speakers plug goes to output of amp,

With the auto lead it's all plug and play no chopping wires even takes power from loom as 15amp max, amp has a auto on/off feature so no need to run a remote wire

  6. Okay, thanks.

I understand how they work in principal - I just thought unless the headunit has the equivalent of a pre-amp out then you wouldn't be able to improve the quality much, but I guess I thought wrongly.

Does it tee off the supply for the headunit then, or somewhere else?

  7. Yes takes the feed from headunit loom as only draws a small amount of current, or you can take to battery whichever you prefer,
Obviously quality will be better with upgraded speakers as originals are very poor
