Howdy folks. Following my little project on my R26.R earlier in the year (where I had new intercooler and hoses fitted by Wests of Bedford) I have had a couple of issues. They didnt tighten one of the hoses enough and it leaked a small amount of coolant on the way to Spa. fortunately A: the car wasn't going on track (I was shooting Spa 24H) and B: I caught it in time. I managed to get it to RSR in Spa who flushed the "green" coolant out tightened the fitting and replaced it with "pink" fluid. Question is this ok? Should I flush it again and replace back with "green"? Confused.
Only problem IMHE is when one hasn't thoroughly flushed through all the old coolant type, what happens then is the new type reacts with bits of the old coolant left over and you get this horrible brown gunk forming on the expansion tank inside etc. I learned this from experience on my Porsche 944 years ago and was only fixed when everything was pulled apart in its transformation into a race car. In that cars case there was no issue with using the other type in terms of effect on seals etc. I don't know if there is any problem there for Renaults.
I've just had a delivery of the engine. Coolant from Renault parts direct and it's green but mine is pink. Does anyone have a link to the correct coolant? Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
Green is the correct renault type d coolant, but for some reason my last two newish cars from two different renault dealerships came with red coolant in them.
Risky if it's different though, am I right in thinking it will knacker motor if it's different stuff Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
I would use the one it came from the factory, so green indeed, why its point to risk even if its not doing harm?! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is what concerns me, I've bought the proper green stuff but it's currently pink in the tank/holder. I might draw a little out and mix it with the green and see what happens. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
As much as i remember from somewhere, mixing two different coolants is not a good idea, so flush it if you can and put the green one in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My advice, if its OK at the moment don't try and change again. Not always guaranteed you will be able to flush effectively and if it will react it only needs small amounts in there to react with. Made that mistake myself years ago.
It looks like I don't have a choice with this one, temp gauge is up and down a bit and coolant is quite a bit below minimum. I'm going to drain the system and run the hose through for a little while before filling it with new coolant and bleeding. Not looking forward to doing this. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
Sounds ridiculous, but once you think you've got all the coolant out, with the bottom hose off, clean the coolant hole and put your mouth around it to make a seal, and blow... do this three times, then give it a minute, then three times, then give it a minute etc. Got loads more coolant out of mine this way.
