250 Induction Kit/Cone filter

  1. So I'm getting my car mapped at the end of the month and I was just gonna stick one on beforehand. Just for the noise tbh. My mate has a stage 2 GTI and recently had an air intake fitted alongside map and every time I hear it I want one... Haha.

Sounds a lot like this. Nuts. Is that just the cone causing that flutter sound?

Says this is a pipercross cone, is that a DIY job as they don't sell a kit. What do you need to buy along with the 200x200 80mm cone?

  2. Also interested in this

  3. It's more the forge dump valve doing the noise that you like, however having the cone filter instead of all the oem pipework allows the sounds to be heard much more clearly.

  4. Most of the dump valves I've heard on 250s do not sound like this at all haha? I don't like the dump valve sound really. Just like a hissing?

  5. It's either a recirc valve (forge) or the DV removed all together and blanked along with a cone filter.

  6. Does the forge recirc valve add extra noise compared to standard item?

  7. Recirc valves don't add ANY noise whatsoever, your car has one from factory as standard.... the Forge item can hold higher levels of boost than the standard recirc valve. From memory, you use a 'YELLOW' spring (a stronger spring) again supplied from forge on stage1 cars.
The open cone filter is where you'll get the noise.

  8. Something like this?

  9. Exactly. I run this same setup just now. Sounds the exact same. Some people route the filter via silicone hose/ connectors to space in the NS front bumper, avoids heat from the engine bay. I went with the above however. The forge valve / yellow spring will give you a much sharper (abrupt) noise (like your first video) rather than the progressive whoosh of the second.

You could buy a cone filter first, see if it suits and take it from there. I'm using a second hand APEXI filter... works well!

  10. Yeah tbh it was between the ktec, or injen short ram intake. Injen one is dearer cause it needs imported but it's loud. Don't fancy any of the proper CAI like the ITG one as too paranoid about water. Doesn't it sit below the headlight behind he arch liner or something?

It must be the blanking plate along with the cone that makes that Raj flutter noise

  11. Yes, it does... problem solved if you don't take your car through floods!! You could always measure the inter neck size, I think this is 63mm or so from memory, get a silicone connector 63/75mm and buy a filter yourself K&N /Green/ Anyother and save some ££. I'll DM you a photo of mines later

  12. Argghhh!!!

That noise is NOT due to the cone. A recirc valve CAN produce noise - especially in a metal intake pipe. The noise is made by the sudden reintroduction of air back into the pipe. You don't hear it in a car with a recirculation valve usually as the plastic oem pipe doesn't reverberate the same, and doesn't have an open end near the cabin.

The fluttering sound could also be compressor wheel stall, but forge valves can be set to deliver the air back into the intake or vent-to-air to give a similar 'but not a damaging' sound.
