Donington Park GP Saturday 5th November, anyone from here going? The operator is Javelin. I'll be there in my Cup-S
I'm booked on already for this!! Also booked Oulton Park on the 4th which was about £130 if anyone else interested. Staying overnight on the 3rd near Oulton then staying in castle donnington on the 4th in case anyone doing the same and wants to meet for a beer? Will probably take my overboosted datsun rust bucket(grey skyline r32 gtr). I've never been on either track before so will be even slower than usual, any chance of some pointers from any locals please? Really excited (Another) Sam
Good to hear! I'll be driving up in the morning. Both are superb circuits, definitely worth reading up on the lines of Oulton then watching some good vids. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ian, PM sent Sam/Ian guessing you know Donnington? Any chance I could (try) following you round to fast track my line learning? Want to share some vids?
Gent, Shall look forward to that! Will of course return the passenger ride, will understand if you pass up on that though
I'll be there - picked up my R26 last Saturday so Donny will be my first track session in her. Look out for a black one travelling slowly with awful lines . Given that I'm away all of this weekend it's going to be a challenge to get my R888r's and short shifter fitted in time .
Cheers guys! Can't wait to properly use the car outside of Surrey and its constant heavy traffic! Will say hello! Did an evening session on the GP track last summer in the 135, such a good track!
A friend is also coming in his new focus RS. If we could all pretend his car has a big target on the back and proceed to take him out that'd be much appreciated. If I take the Renault it'll be interesting sport as last time we played he couldn't get away. He's had it tuned since so may have the advantage.
Indeed. If the parts come tomorrow as promised it should be ready but think it highly unlikely. Just trying to make sure the GTR is going to be ready now. It needs new back discs and pads and possibly some work on the front callipers. Grrrrr expensive times
I went to Castle Coombe with an friend he had a focus and was forever in the way, quick in a straight line but braking and cornering, what a waste of time. Once i got past him i caught him back up in about 5 laps Told him he bought the wrong car but he won't listen
Lol! Not much between mine and my mates: Only cause he'll never read this - he's actually a pretty quick driver. He's done snetterton 300 in 2:07 in and old GTR! If I take the Renault it's going to be interesting. He's got more power now but I will hopefully have far better alignment and AD08R's vs his MPSS.
Looking like my Renault ill be ready for this as the parts turned up this morning so should be able to pick it up tomorrow. Might take the Meggy afterall
I'm coming in the Frenchie Leaving later today - can't wait!! Look forward to seeing you all there provided nothing goes wrong at Oulton tomorrow! Cheers, Sam
Just had a brilliant day at Oulton, car was fantastic and tyre wear perfect!!! BUT! Stupidly I forgot to bring my spare pads and looks like I need front and back. Only 5ish mm front and slightly less back. Any ideas where I can get some new ones? Thanks!
I have just changed to CLs at the front and have the OEMs ones boxed in the car. You can use them tomorrow if you want..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What a fantastic day! Ian - great to meet you and thanks for showing us the lines, very quick car you have there Sam - huge thanks for bringing the spare pads! Your car looks spot on and what an amazing spec. Very fun couple of days!!!!
Cheers guys, we had a great day.Once I've edited the video and sorted the RS Monitor telemetry out I'll do a little write up.
Good to meet you Sam and Sam, i also had a great day, shame about all the red flags though. Will get my car sorted over the winter and then will show that rs the way home Had a better run home than on the way up still 4 hours though.
Sam - looking forward to your write up!! Also the videos! Was a nightmare for us getting back too, took nearly 4 hours yet was less than 150 miles!! Yes that pesky RS Focus! He's a cheat, last time I chased him he was nothing like as quick but that mountune thing has really made it quicker! He clocked 1:52 with a passenger against my 1:55 also with a passenger. Absolutely loved that downhill section and back part of the track, my learning was increased thanks to copying your lines but I still felt i could've gone quicker, so scary in the braking zone but brilliant fun! The megs were mega! The focus was one of the only things that seemed quicker than our megs, really impressed.
About the same for me but 240 miles better than the 6 1/2 to get there. I was thinking about that Focus, its at least 100+ bhp more than our cars and he wasn't pulling away that much, how much quicker would you have been with another 100 bhp. The trouble with Craner curve is the old hairpin after, if you get it wrong its a big impact into the tyres. I know mine is down on power at the moment, that air leak is annoying me to the extent i am going to fit the 250 engine very soon. Till the next trackday
Yeah with more power we would have had him! Got a couple of vids - this one is at the end of the day where I'm least scared and starting to enjoy myself a bit, chasing a really impressive Nova!!
That Astra blow-up is rather impressive, hopefully it didnt cover your car in too much shit! For those interested I've done a write up here: http://www.rsmegane.com/threads/donington-park-gp-5th-november-write-up.12880/
He was the second one that blew up in front of me, the other was a Nova i think, the Atom also spun at Coppice, about 5 car lenghts infront of me, the mx5 that was following him went into the gravel to avoid it, yet another red flag. He was trying to keep me behind on previous session, so i thought i'd give him a bit of space
