Internal leak - please help!

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by MPG MAN, Oct 22, 2016.

  1. Hi people,

I have noticed a leak on the passenger's side dripping onto the carpet/matt. I've taken some photos and I apologise if it's unclear but any suggestions etc would be appreciated. When lifting up the carpet it's really quite wet so it looks like it's been like it for a while.

    Cheers

  2. That's the air-con drain.

There's a pipe should empty under the car but the bottom of it will be blocked with crud most likely. Because of this it overflows into the cabin there. The pipe is a little hard to get to as it's behind the exhaust shield iirc.

  3. Are there any photos of the location of the bung/heat shield? I've only had the car two weeks.

  4. I have just looked under mine and I can't see the drain because of the heat shield, but how do you drop the heat shield? The fastenings for it look like they unscrew from above. Surely you don't need to remove the seats and carpets to get to the heat shield screws? I'll have to do that anyway some point to dry everything out but wanted to clear the drain asap.

  5. Although I've not tried it, I wonder if you can get a compressed airline onto it to unblock it?

  6. That grommet isn't the easiest to get to behind the heat shield but I did it. The water came out and ran down my sleeve and now when the aircon is in it leaks on the outside of the car now.

    Thanks for everyone's help!

  7. Did you get to it with the heat shield in place or drop it? In which case can you give me a clue how you did it? If I get some more ramps or use my brother's pit it might be more obvious, but it wasn't last time I looked on the jack.

  8. I have a mini pit on my drive so looked underneath and saw the heatshield I unscrewed four of the screws and it lowered slightly enough for me to push my hand up inside and feel around for the grommet with the nipple/hole on the end. I used insulated copper wire and pushed it up the hole until water came out. I have a miltek exhaust system so the gap was smaller than I guess than normal and more difficult to squeeze my hand in between but the grommet is there as described. It is in the centre and very close to the front as pictured in the other thread with the red square. Once you have the car in the air it's easier to see it.

I used an air line on mine, but make sure you have a good seal around the top or it becomes messy :rage:

  10. Thanks. I'll have another look. It was the screws that confused me as on my initial look it looks like the screws go through metal fastening that seem to be screwed from above, hence I wasn't sure how to unscrew them. I'll make sure I'm looking at the right screws and if so see if I can turn them with grips/pliers.

  11. I used pliers and it was easy. It looked harder than it is that bit.
