Michelin PS4

  1. Hi, so time to swap the front tyres, I really really want to try the new ps4, but can not find them in 235/35 r19 91, I think I can find the size but with 96 as a loading charge index. Otherwise I would go PSS, but that is a shame ..

  2. That'll be fine

  3. What's the consensus on the PS4 sidewall rigidity and it's suitability as an occasional track day tyre?

Or are we waiting on the PS4S in Jan 17 for that?

  4. They're fine at the ring, though that's not anything like UK tracks

I used the PS2s for track days and they were fine so given the PS4 is a replacement for that, they'll also be fine. More squeal than a semi-slick but they're comparable in terms of lap times and will probably get to the point of being too hot around the same kind of time as you should come in for a break anyway

  5. Thanks Neil.

Having destroyed a set of Eagle F1 ASY2's at Blyton recently, (pressures were all wrong admittedly) I'm lead to believe a nice stiff sidewall would help. People say very good things about the RE050a and Vred Vorti's but I can get the PS4 for £100 a corner fitted at Costco.

I know a road tyre is never going to match a semi-slick, but for a daily driver that will do maybe 4-5 track days a year, I can't justify running them every day or a 2nd set of wheels.

Oh and sorry for derailing the OP's thread :worried:

  6. Actually the ps4 I found were 255, so won't get them anyway ..... so PSS it is gonna be then ! Might be better to get the 18' wheel actually ...

  7. The PSS will be replaced ... try to get a discount!

  8. Looks good, but not for those peasants like me with 18's  19's and up only I believe.

  9. Only 19" and 20" announced for now on the PS4S, but StephRS means you should be able to get a discount on the discontinued PSS!

  10. I've owned my 250 for nearly six years now, always ran PS2's and to be honest I could never fault them.
Last tyre change in August I went for PS4's as I was struggling to find PS2's.
Thought that the PS4 would be as good as if not better than the PS2, WRONG! I've had these fitted for a couple of months now and even a bit of spirited 'B' road driving sees my traction control light on and off like Xmas lights and the car feels very unsure under hard cornering.
I don't know what Michelin are trying to sell us but PS2's are in a different league to these ditch finders.
I'll be changing to PS Cups and would advise anyone considering PS4's to seek an alternative.
    Very disappointed.

  11. Thank you for your feedback. Very useful!

  12. Surprised at your thoughts on Ps4s Bumblebee. Im not sure if getting PS Cups is going to do you any favors with keeping your traction light off coming into winter unless you only drive it in the dry?

Ive now run the following on my Megane(s):
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (Factory Fitted RS 265 Trophy) x 4
    Michelin PSS x 4
    Michelin PS2 x 6
    Michelin Ps CUPs x 2
    Toyo Proxes t1 x 2
    Michelin PS4 x4
+ some other god awful Chinese generic brand for ~100 miles when i bought my last car

So far Im happy with my PS4s. Ive had zero issues with these on the road. Feel similar to the PSSs and seem to have a similar strength side wall i.e. not that stiff, certainly not as stiff as the bridgestones.

Ive used them on a Anglesea trackday and they performed ok in the dry, pretty decent in the wet but thats what i expected from a road tyre. I have another trackday next week and im going to test out the PS2s vs PS4s side by side so will report back then.

  13. Everything depend on driving style, taste and skills. If you are very aggresive, michelins are not for you except from ps2 which - as an older school tyre- was more than decent. I have not tested cup2 yet

That's my personal opinion of course

Re pss, I couldn't stand them. Very soft sidewall. I sold them within a month

  16. I've done a full track day at Anglesey (admittedly the morning was wet) plus three sessions at Knockhill (two 2 hour sessions and one 1 hour session) and my PS4s don't look that bad. The front left is down to it's markers but I don't think there's any chunks out of it.

  17. I was gonna put some of these on for normal road use, over the winter. How would those that have them on rate them on that basis?

I've got specific tyres for track.

  18. They are fantastic road tyres.

  19. I've had these PS4's in 235 on the 250 for about 1000 miles now and so far they are the best tyres I've had fitted hands down.. The steering feel is immense, the grip in the dry and wet is silly haha.. I had Ps2's on the car when I bought it and I'd say these are better.

The conti 5P's I had replaced were absolutely sh*te compared to these and they're supposed to be a good tyre. Lasted no time at all and they felt downright dangerous in the wet sometimes. Had no confidence driving in the wet in the conti's whatsoever. Car seems to feel less crashy in general aswell on these terrible roads here and far more grippy! It's like night and day honestly haha..... Very impressed with these Ps4's!

  20. Trip to Costco next month is on the cards.

  21. Sorry but taking a car onto a kart circuit will always kill road tyres, three sisters is well known for killing tyres and brakes.

  22. Yup and I was totally too rough with it. They are a fantastic tyre on the road particularly in the wet.

+1 took my 944 race car onto the little test track at Haynes museum a couple of years ago for a shake down, took half the tread depth off the Dunlop DZ03g tyres, total track running time according to my data logger was about 45 min.

I have PS4 on the back of my R26, I really like them as a road tyre but not had them on track to judge that, however they seem to be more solid than PS2.

  24. Si.

    Si.

Had PS4 on the front for around 5k now. Hands down the best road tyre i have had and the wear is pretty good also

Had dunlop sport maxx on before and they were dreadful compared to these. Will be fitting 2 more now the rears have had it

  25. What the hell has happened to the price of PS4's in the last 2 weeks?! I was looking to buy some and Tyre Shopper had them at £387 in discount code, fitted. Now they are over £430 :worried:

Might be back to the Vredesteins as they are over £100 cheaper.

  26. Michelin tyres as a whole seemed to have jumped up. I'm guessing it's the pound vs euro effect.

  27. I ran a set of PS3's recently. They shouldn't be as good as PS4's but incredibly they got me a first place at a recent sprint. The guy that came second had twice as much power and R888R's, I was the only one running road tyres and has presumed I'd be miles off the pace!

Also ran a set of MPSS and have to say they're the best tyre I've used in terms of life, grip throughout the life of the tyre, wet and dry performance and ability on track. I wouldn't recommend them for an all out track car but for what the OP describes think they'd be his best option.

  28. For anyone following this thread, I just bought 4x PS4's in 225/40/18 92Y for £348 fitted at Costco. If you are a member, they currently have £60 off when buying 4x Michelin boots.

Having them fitted Friday or Saturday so I'll report back soon with my thoughts compared to the Eagle F1 ASY2's
