Trackday Questions

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by NathanF, Sep 22, 2016.

  1. I've got a couple of questions about trackdays in my Meg.

    1) I've got about 4mm left on my F1 fronts at the moment and 3mm on the rears, so I was going to buy some PS4's soon. Depending on surface and driving style of course, but am I likely to get a decent day out of whats left?

    2) Similarly, I have decent pads in, but only stock ones. I accept the fact I'll only get a few laps before fade, but they should still have plenty of meat on them after a single day?

    3) And finally, I'm looking at Moris for my insurance and I'm still confused about insuring my excess for £20 or so. The quote says that without the insurance the excess is £750 and I understand that if I do £5000 damage I'd get £4250 back? But if I did £500 damage I'd get sod all. The excess insurance seems to imply that if I pay it, no matter how much I claim, £500 or £5000, it would be paid out and I'd have no excess to pay? That can't be right can it, I'm sure I have that wrong.

    Ta!

  2. Plenty tread left!

  3. Thanks James!

And I've had the insurance bit clarified. Long story short, you will never, EVER, get a payout if the damage done is less than the excess amount, even with the extra insurance. But with the extra insurance, you'll not pay the excess if the damage is above that threshold.

Even better, I'll just do my best not to throw it at the scenery if I'm brave enough to ever do one

  4. I've only had my megane a few weeks but have doe a fair bit of track work already.

    My advice would be:

    1 don't get new tyres.

2 if they're stock Renault pads I'd recommend them, esp for the price. I've done about 200 hard treack miles on a feseh set of stock pads (2 track days) and don't expext to change them soon. they work fine, I think most people tht sya the stock brakes are crap might be confusing the pads with old fluid. The Renault service schedule doesn't require regular fluid changes.

  5. Good to know. I had genuine stock pads in about 2k miles ago and genuine brake fluid change about 5k ago, so should be good to go!

Just need to get it on the track now.
