250 Spacers

  1. Looking for some advice on spacers please chaps..

Would 16mm all round have any significant effect on handling?

Heard they can also effect the scrub radius depending on size? Would this need to be tweaked?

    Cheers

  2. Not a fan myself. Spacers put strain on the bolts

  3. I think plenty of the guys on here run them as do many others with different cars.

Most go for 20mm, I'm going to run 16mm so hoping will be fine Neil.

Scrub radius goes to pot and it ruins the feel. I ran 20mm spacers for all of 15 minutes on track when I first got it years ago. Anyone that says they havnt felt or notice a difference don't drive them hard enough or exploit the chassis to its full.

  5. Cheers for your input Jamie. Would having wheels with a smaller offset not also have these effects?

  6. I dont think you can opt for 16mm spacer, i think you cant go from 10 to 18 as the centerig is 15-16mm long on the hub, higher than 10mm and there is not enough to hold the wheel in center properly, and lower the 18mm there is no space to make a transition to get a centering part on the spacer it self.
I would go 20-25 on the rear and if you must 5-7mm on the front

  7. But would having wider back to front not cause even more of a change in handling characteristics?

  8. Eibach do a 16mm humcentric to fit the Megane 3

  9. Question - other than improved look, so spacers have any advantage to handling and drivability?

Yeah they would, I have a set of Et35 wheels to go on mine, less than my preferred specs but they were cheap and are light. I'm hoping with non standard suspension I can dial out the horrendous understeer that came with the spacers, if not ill sell them on and get something closer to oem spec

  11. Was the understeer that bad Jamie? If it is i'm sacking it off, can't be doing with that. I'm just just a bit confused now that if it has such a negative effect why do so many people have spacers and wheels with a higher negative offset set? I can understand with people liken yourself that have uprated suspension and can dial it out but for others....

Yup, front end pushed on, rear wasn't as mobile, completely changed the dynamics of the car.

Bearing in mind this was on a completely stock car though.

  13. Cheers Jamie

Anyone else with much experience in this area?

  14. Using 18x8 ET48 wheels, shure i can feel a difference in driving compared to stock alloys but i cant say that its understeering more than it was on the track, we still managed to achieve some great lap times on our local track and it was turning very well. What the lower ET has done mainly is that its tramlining much more on the bad roads.

  15. Cheers for the advise chaps. After some deliberation I've decided against it. Too many cons weigh out the pros. Think l'll wait to get a proper suspension setup (coilovers) and wheels. Don't want to effect the great handling of the car with spacers.

  16. You can alter the end. It wont change the car, but on the front thats a no-no

Regarding the 16mm thick spacers that is paper thin at the point the hubcentric part conveverts in to spacer. A bigger force and would snap off (what actually hapens in some cases)
18-19mm is minimal safe spacer thickness as there is an owerlap of 3-4mm on soacer and new hubcentric part.
