Megane 175 Lower Engine Mount - Powerflex

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Jakg, Sep 15, 2016.

  1. I'm looking to upgrade the engine mounts on my car to the Powerflex items where applicable.

I've looked online but it seems like the 175 uses a different design of mount to the 225, and none of the bushes listed on the Powerflex site look like they fit?

    Has anyone done this before?

    Pictures of my mount attached.

  2. Feel like an idiot now - I need either PFF60-524R or PFF60-527R. Very clear on their site. D'oh.

  3. Hi mate, had the same problem when i looked at it so confusing and not many aftermarket part for the 175 too,
still haven't done it though, let us know how you get on.

  4. Hey mate,

I recommend not to fit the upper Powerflex bush as is too harsh for read use and lots of vibration. But in case you really want to test it, I can sell mine.

  5. In case you struggle with parts for 175, I think I have most of them covered already. Just ask.

  6. I'm not sure what you mean by "upper mount"? On their site they list bushes for the upper right engine mount, the gearbox mount (also upper right), but there must be a left engine mount that they don't do bushes for.

I already have the Gearbox bush insert ready to fit, and I have a new Febi upper right engine mount as mine looks worn out.

In hindsight, I would've bought the Powerflex one for the upper right if I'd of known it was available, and I still might - is this the bush your saying you wouldn't recommend?

I see they do the a bush insert, and a replacement bush (with inserts to firm it up even more). I would imagine in terms of harshness (from least to most) would be bush, then bush insert, then replacement bush with inserts

  7. Hello,

In order to make sure we understand ourself, let's say that our powertrain has 4 mounts.
    - main engine mount, driver side, next to the timing chain, filled with oil originally
    - gearbox mount, passenger side, under the battery
    - dog leg mount, under the car, connect bottom side of the engine to the subframe
    - upper mount, driver side, above the turbo/exhaust, connects the engine to the firewall.

The Powerflex gearbox insert is not good for our car with the stock dCi mount, unless you change the original mount and support to the 225 petrol one which will raise your gearbox 1cm.
The dog leg insert is ok and does the job. I have it on my car also.
The upper mount insert is too stiff and the dashboard vibrate more then I accept (personal feeling) - I can sell this one.

The replacement bush from Powerflex will be unbearable in a diesel engine.

What I've done on my car is:
    - stiffen the stock gearbox mount myself
    - stiffen the stock main engine mount (oil filled one)
    - fitted Powerflex insert on the dog leg
    - new upper mount

Also I raised the idle to 925rpm and changed the injection strategy at idle to improve combustion stability (lower vibration at idle) in order to get to an acceptable condition.
I also used some hard foam wedges between windscreen and dashboard to lower the dashboard rattle.

On the other side, the camber adjustable lower arm Powerflex mount is also $h!t.

  8. Ok, thankyou - I think I'll get the dog leg mount, try fitting the gearbox mount, but stay with new rubber, not polyurethane, on the upper mount.

  9. Let me know how the gearbox mount goes.

  10. Bit late but I gave up - changed the dog leg (powerflex), upper (febi) and inspected the main drivers side mount.

Was going to fit the gearbox one until I realised the bumper has to come off (?!?!?!) and just couldn't be bothered.

Will keep hold of it so that I can when the bumper is next off.

  11. New OEM mounts on mine last month and yesterday fitted the powerflex inserts to them all (except the 4th upper engine stabiliser obvs). Bit of idle vibration is back yes but feels a lot more solid.

  12. What milage on your cars?
Mines done 142k (literally mostly motorway) and i might change some of these to freshen it up.

  13. 64.5k when I did mine. Powerflex did feel harsh at first but couple hundred miles they've settled and just right

  14. Mine had done 80k - the top right one was totally knackered but the rest were ok.

  15. Right I'll get em swapped out then. Had the car since 117k with a very comprehensive invoiced service history. No mention of mount changes.

I'll start with the top right.
    Don't suppose you have a part #?

  16. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252616236585 - is the one off my car. You can see the cracks. It was the only one with any damage.

8200355673 is the genuine part number - I bought a Febi one (part 28226) from eBay for £29 although they are now out of stock.

Powerflex do an insert but to quote an earlier post in this thread:

  17. Euro car parts do them - genuine part exactly same as renault but called hutchinson and a good whack cheaper than renault but more than the febi copies

  18. Out of stock so will probably just get the febi one.

Going to have a little look first. I note it's the same as the 1.5dci link. Got one of these too with 176k on it and that rattles like you wouldn't believe on tickover so I'll probably get one for that too!
