Speed Difference Porsche GT£ vs Megane RS...& exploding car!!!!

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by R26Man, Sep 7, 2016.

  1. Porsche GT£ excellent car and SOOPER fast but how much faster on a lap when you have traffic to contend with?

Makes me think the Megane is the price / performance ratio bargain of the decade....would still LOVE a GT3 though...

Insurance is not ONLY valuable in terms of accidents when using your car on track......it's also in case you burst into flames with excitement!!! No one hurt....

    Safe driving

  2. holding the P car well in corners, nice

  3. Great video thx. I think the Porsche was at 8 or 9/10ths on most apexes though. So would I with such a high value car.

  4. Thanks for the positive comment.
The price is another plus point for the Megane!!
Nissan GT-R is another GREAT car for the Ring IF you can afford the running costs....

  5. The Meg (and indeed any hot hatch that's sub 8mins) is very capable relative to the more exotic cars, and can be driven closer to its potential by a non-race driver, so is definitely great value for money...

...but a 250bhp car won't keep up with a 400bhp one if they're both being driven close to their limit and the "problem" with most GT3 owners is that they're not driving the car anywhere near the limit, so it's a poor reflection of what the car is capable of

Taking the Megane round in sub 8 mins like the OP does is really good going - probably within 5% of the car's theoretical capability (which is around 20 seconds on such a long lap)

If you want a rough BTG time for a car, then take the full lap and for a 200bhp car, it's probably around 30s between bridge and gantry

https://nurburgringlaptimes.com/lap-times-top-100/ for some full lap times

Megane video shows it's 27 seconds from BTG on full lap. The M4 GTS (490bhp) is 24 seconds.

Theoretical fastest BTG in a megane is therefore around 7:30

    In a new GT3, you're looking at 7mins

30 seconds on a whole lap doesn't sound much, but it's about half a second every corner, so you may still see the GT3 heading towards SX, but then probably wouldn't see it again for the rest of the lap

  6. Good driving now mate - your car seems to go well round there. Looks like your not stock both power and set-up. You seemed to hold high gears say 4th where a stock car would just suffer from lag so has to go down to 3rd for example.

What have you had done and what set up are you running?

  7. Hi,
Thanks for your positive comments. You are correct my car is about 300bhp with a chip&tune from BR Performance and the rest of the spec of the car is posted on here somewhere!
