It has a newer sensor type (gapless ie it has some optics on each pixel to gether light that would othervise be lost on the gap beetrween each pixel) which is a huge upgrade ower the older sensor types. Canon started caring these on 50D, 7D and 550D i think (forst models to receive such sensor) Only thing i would say is bad for the 60d compared to 50d is the lack of metal body which the 50D has. Can't say for sure if there is any difference regarding shutter sync, should be able to place your object of interest at whichever end of its light trail you need with both versions. The only real difference i am aware of is the recycle time, some physical changes and the option to control flash setting trough camera menu.
