I have a megane 225 cup that's I bought thinking it was completley standard, I have recently fitted a decat and a induction kit but not mapped yet, my friend has just bought a nearly new 275 with 2000 miles on and we had a little play on the motorway about 50/60 and there's barley anything in it at all it's more down to who gets their foot down first.. So the question is, is my 225 already mapped? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In a straight line, I'd be surprised if there's much in it either way. A 225 Cup is already around 6.3 to 60, a 275 Cup is 5.8. Your car may already be mapped, but we're talking .5 of a second difference which is certainly enough to bring in other variables like who got their foot there first.
Similar times. Just little that keep your head to the 275 in 0-60! If your was total stock, i don't think it's was remap
I've been watching videos on YouTube and it seems that there is very little between the two, it was whoever got their foot down first was winning and the gap stayed the same, I just really hope mine isn't mapped as I bought it on the understanding it was standard and unmolested, I expected to get beat if I'm honest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Was your friend in sport mode? Otherwise he may have only had 250ps. Were you both in the same gear? A lot of the 225/230's tend to dyno a little higher I think as well, stock. Another thing - to pull massive gaps over a short distance you need huge differences in power remember.
I don't think there would be much in it 225 cup 60kg lighter than the 275 cup. Qtr mile times won't be massively different both in the 14s 60 to 100 I would say 275 will have the legs
Agree and disagree with the observations made. A mk 2 with a basic 250 Bhp map should be about the same as a 275, anyone who has a mk 2 that has gone from standard to mapped knows it is a fairly hefty jump in performance. I felt that it made each gear feel like the next lower gear which is a big improvement in the punch of the car. However it is true for sure that going head to head one needs both cars to be ragged properly at exactly the same time, as an example I did an overtake last week and the guy behind in a new Golf GTD also decided to make the move with me and had no problem sticking with me. I did use 4th instead of 3rd though and following a car you benefit massively from their draft. I did the same thing a few months back to a new RS3 which I know is way quicker than my car but I held onto to him through 2 gears keeping the same gap. Its only really on the race track that the performance differences become obvious, I have raced cars (same model and spec) which I knew had an engine rebuild and were producing maybe 5 more Hp and 15 lb/ft of torque and it helped them pull on me for an overtake on the straights, 1/10ths matter in those circumstances but are barely noticeable on public roads.
Sure if the 225 was mapped. That was the initial doubt though. Both stock, the 50 bhp advantage of the slightly heavier 275 would give it the legs, all thing being equal of course.
Im not so sure there would be a great difference even with 50 bhp advantage given its in gear acceleration not standing start. I do agree the 275 would be quicker but I think you would not see significant daylight between the two
Well 'a friend' of mine does a lot of hoons and he says that even with a wide range of vehicles from diesel hatchbacks to 'premium coupes', on the road there is often very little difference in performance and almost none when bends are involved. That's what he says anyway...
