250 OBD PORT TOOL

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by T&biskits, Aug 17, 2016.

  1. Does anybody have any recommendations with regards to tools that allow `code ` reading from the OBD port. I have 2 wifi obd11 tools for reading codes thru apps. I cannot get any device (iphone, ipad ,laptop) to pick the wifi signal up. What is everyone using?

  2. Wifi ones suck. You want to go for one that's Bluetooth enabled, but that will only work with android devices

I use a similar setup to the Garmin Vibe - OBDII reader streams data directly to the camera over bluetooth

  3. Better get a new bluetooth tool then. I was wondering if anyone had tried the diagnostic code readers that they sell on ebay for £13, the plug in cable versions?

  5. I have the exact one , but wifi.

  6. I've only ever had the Bluetooth one and it's works perfectly.

  7. I have the same one and working a treat with Torque and other apps with my Sony Z3, (also works with phone connected to Garmin Sat Nav and Sony Head unit by BlueTooth at same time)

  8. I now have the bluetooth one with torque, & it works fine.Must just be the wi fi ones. Cheers for the feedback.

  9. What's the Bluetooth pin for the eBay one? I've just received mine but it didn't come with a pin.

  10. Pin?

  11. Didn`t have to use a pin on mine.

  12. try 0000 or 1234 thats the normal standards

  13. I've also bought the elm 327 on eBay if prompted for pin 1234 or 0000 or 5678 I think

  14. I got it working with 1234

  15. What code reading apps are people using? I've had three or four intermittent "check injection system" warnings over the last couple days and neither Torque or OBD Car Doctor is able to show up any stored fault codes.

Get it on Clip, generic code readers are pish for actually finding what's up with it

  17. I suspected that might be the issue, I'll take it to a garage then unless anyone on here is in Glasgow with clip?

SWR in Stirling is likely your best bet, bet, Think Stuart Woods the auto electrics guy in Airdrie might have access to clip as well mind you

  19. Has anyone got this working with iPhone?

  20. I've got one of those cheap cabled readers and its been pretty good so far for both the Meg and the other half's Megane.. picked up a fault on the latter that a local garage was struggling to get to the bottom of.

Bluetooth dongle for me permanently connected and Torque Pro app running on Android. Nice for Boost gauge etc too !

Also got one of the Fastchip boxes which the diagnostics and code reading is better than both of the above.. picks up historical faults that are not currently active etc..
