Nurburgring...Faster Lap With New Upgrade....

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by R26Man, Aug 13, 2016.

  1. Just added 2 degrees of camber to the back of the car to try and add a bit more grip. The plates are not available from Renault and so were made up for me. The extra high speed confidence is "night and day" over the standard set up. Tried it out on the G.P Circuit here on last Tuesday and then last Wednesday the Nordschleife was scheduled to be closed was but at the last minute opened after the track day. The track was REALLY quiet and the temp's low so after a couple of warm up laps here is a video clip to give an idea what difference the extra rear camber and toe makes.

    Safe driving...

  2. Can you post your camber settings front and rear?

  3. KW Clubsport on the front with 2.6 degrees and 2 degrees on the rear. Car is corner weighted.

  4. Noob question, but you're adding negative camber, yep?

  5. Yeah...negative camber.....

  6. How have you achieved that much camber on the front and what Spring rates do you run?

For the rear did you fit a spacer under the bolt heads as well to keep the bolt straight?

I know my Cup-S will need more camber so it's all good learning.

  7. 2deg rear seems ok to match the front and optimise lat grip. The car is bound to be almost neutral but probably understeers a little more than before. I guess the only downside could be a bit less stability in the big braking zones but not many of those at the Ring anyway.

  8. Hi, Perfectly correct in your assumptions!! Understeer was encountered but has been corrected with tyre pressure increase in the rear. Now have 2.4bar front and 2.5bar rear which gives neutral handling.
There is a little less stability on the straight ahead in the braking zone, however, I have changed my technique (see video) with a later, harder, sharp brake which reduces the effect (Endless pads are BRILLIANT) and then enter the corner to use the full grip of the tyre. I found that with the stability control completely off the car was always a little "loose" under braking anyway.

  9. Front camber is using KW Clubsport coil-overs and adjustable top-mounts.

Spring rates.....Hmmmm.....not sure now as I have changed them but they are from Raeder Motorsport who have a special set-up for the Megane to use at the Nurburgring and they did the corner weighting also.

  10. Raeder fit 110N/mm springs instead of the stock 70N/mm up front.

They change the damping as well to suit AFAIK
