  1. I'm interested to know what everyone will go for after their Megane's (or what you went for if you already have)?

I feel like this is the peak of the FWD game cost:tongueout:erformance ratio wise. I have no intention of selling anytime soon at all but interested to hear people's thoughts on where to go from here !!?

For me it would have to be a substantial step forwards in vehicle to warrant the sale of my beloved Megane...

Let me know what you all think !

  2. Interested to see what the next RS Megane has to offer. Looks like it will be 5 door and over 300bhp as standard and I'm sure Renault intend on leading the pack, not making up the numbers

Auto express have written an article stating its likely to be still front wheel drive with a choice of EDC dual clutch or a manual gearbox

  4. Something for £250-£500 with a years MOT.

  5. Awaiting the next Megane RS (hoping for a 5 door) If not I'll be getting myself an A45 as I adore the looks, yes it isn't the best handler but kids due so it's time to have an all rounder that my wife can drive easy enough.

  6. 4 and 1/2 weeks time I take delivery of the Performance RS6 so that'll be my next car. Not really a Megane replacement though just an addition to the family as enjoyed previously a B7 RS4 and friend has an RS6 and it ticks all the boxes for me in terms of being able to ferry the family around, work, performance, noise, handling, all-season weather use.

Other car thats pre-ordered so to speak is the Model 3 Tesla, I stuck down the £1000 deposit when they opened that up which they claim will be late next year.

Depending on whether the next Supra now out in 2018 (they say) is under £100k and over 500bhp that could certainly be temping as I've had 2 Supra's previously when I was 20-21 and loved them in fact my TT Aerotop also made me huge profits, I didn't want to sell the thing but a knock on the door and offer was to much to not accept.

As a direct Megane replacement... no idea really. Ideally I want something thats fairly cheap to track but I has lots of modification / tuning options available whilst still fairly capable straight out the box and low-key and to be honest without spending at least 3 times more for a car that doesn't have many varying options to change performance and set-up I'm not sure there is an option yet.

I think it'll be 2018 onwards before the next generation of that sort of car appears and manufactures are all weighing up the hybrid side of things. Who know's DRS and KERS on the next one

  8. I had a look at an E92 M3 and it's just felt old as hell for some reason, it also smelt like an old person inside [emoji23]. Not that any of that matters as it was a ropey 08 plate. Didn't get chance to drive it as it was Heavily raining. Seating position feels good however.

Cayman S is the other option that I keep looking at. I just worry about reliability and when it does go wrong, what a fiddle it is to get at parts of the motor

  9. TEV250, your avatar is a photo at KTEC so I assume you got your car there, could always ask to try David's one as he has his own E92 M3 Individual he kindly lent me as a courtesy car when I had work done. It's had the baffles removed from the exhaust as well so sound spot on.

I drove it to Beaulieu to kill some time and have a look around and was spitting with rain which made the roads quiet greasy and the car a little tail happy, certainly felt the extra poke over the E46 M3's.

Having driven the F80 M3's now I don't think I could go that route but I think the price of the E92's will increase if you keep a good example, purists will love the last of the V8 N/As'. Still almost a 10 year old generation car now so issues will start to creep in but taking a look at the E46 M3's still be capable for a long time coming

  10. I've now got a Leon Cupra 290 black edition on order to run alongside the 225. I assume it'll make the 225 feel desperately old and under powered in comparison!

  13. M135i - great choice!

  14. Terrible choice if you're comparing it to a megane. If you're wanting a fast motorway hack then yes it's perfect. Has to be the M2!

  15. Not exactly the same budget. You can get a new 3-dr M135i for £25k despite the superb "basic" spec. The M135i is a pair of M4 lower control arms away from being a brilliant handler, £400 fitted/aligned. But, I still prefer the Megane for track work.

  16. My next car will probably be a low spec small wheel 4-pot non-S Cayman.

  17. I seem to have read in a few places that the m135i is pretty competent in all areas so therefore people get bored of it as its great at doing all jobs well

  19. Just bought an evoque 2.2 sd4 dynamic which will do me for a fair few years
Had a lot of cars and out of them all I had the Megane the longest

  21. my mate had a 07 cayman S..terribly built...low mileage, but clutch went and exhaust manifold fell apart...nuts sheared when the mechanics tried to remove it.Luckily for him,he had access to a full garage facility, otherwise the cost would have been horrendous.
Was very fast round the ring, but certainly tricky on the limit..if you turned off the driver aids you would be in the wall.

  22. Cheers Andrew. Your mate is unlucky! I ran two 987 gen for a number of years and found them decently reliable and cheap to maintain through the right indies. Superbly built anyway. I tracked them both and found the handling super forgiving for a mid-engine car with such a low polar moment of inertia - I reckon the Ring is not the right place to find the limit of such a grippy chassis though !

  23. Is this the path I'll be looking at most probably.

The trouble I find with the Meg is exactly what the OP is alluding to; it's kind of at the top of tree for an all-round drivers car that combines ability, VFM, practicality, running costs etc. I want to like the BRZ/GT86 but it's not enough of a drivers car. I want to like the Lotus Elsie but they're not enough of an everyday useable car. M2/M4 gets a lot right but costs too much. 370Z is a bit too soft. If you analise to the degree I've done in the past, not a lot compares well against the Megane.

I sometimes think the next car will have to be an entirely different beast otherwise I'll just be disappointed.

  24. Exactly. A lot to live up to. The Cayman would be exactly twice as much. That would actually be quite irrational and likely to offer poorer value, however good the porker may inherently be !

I was thinking about an A45 amg, but with the cost of servicing, spares and a remap in the region of £900, i think i will stick with my Megane for a while

  26. I can't get over the sound these make (from the outside). Utterly, utterly ridiculous. Even the wife commented on what a prick a guy was in Manchester the other day when one passed us, and she never notices any cars.

  28. Not really , with adaptive dampers and michelin supersports its a very good handler, yes the megane is better ...maybe, but the bmw rides better and has 2 settings comfort/sport ,on the dampers, a new well specced M135i with discount is less than a megane 275s with limited extras

  29. Comparing like for like and taking account respective discounts, the Megane is still substantially cheaper.

  30. When i looked best i could get off a megane was 2-3k off list , bmw was 7k off list , i didnt really go into a megane discount that much as ti wasnt what i was looking for as i have owned renaultsports for 12 years and was time for a change

  31. Fair enough. Discounts of over 25% have been available on the Megane for a while.

  32. Not so much of a vibe with the 4 pot. Does the rest of the car make up for it? It's easy to just concentrate on the loss of the 6 pot. I like the way Porsche has now priced the Cayman below the Boxster.

  33. Not driven it yet but I think it still makes a strong case for itself - sounds crap but revs well with good throttle response - the clincher for me is indeed the "normal" price positioning. With (modest) discount I can squeeze in a couple of options for under £40k.

Not any more. A colleague of mine today bought what he has been told is the last new RHD mk3 RS Megane for the UK market. He did get a mega deal on it as well similar to the one I believe you have reported.

Getting back to the original question I have been a long term Porsche owner but never owned one that sounded truly great (all front engined 4 pots). Very tempted to sell both the R26 and the 944 race car to fund the best low miles 987 Gen 2 S I can find for decent money. Probably will be the boxster rather than Cayman because there is often a big price differential at that age and spec, would almost certainly get the Carnewal treatment on the exhaust.

  37. BMW of some sort, I think if I bought another Megane it'll much of a muchness if you get me.

  39. I'm honestly swaying towards this sort of thinking, but maybe not quite so cheap! Really starting to wonder if it's actually worth spending so much money on a car and if the enjoyment outweighs the costs
