  1. Beautiful.

  2. Got some awesome photos and videos to put up so far from Nurburgring

Wing mirror decided at 155mph it had enough on autobahn and left me.

Managed 3 laps today when track opened at 5.30

First lap was more of a refresher, sighting get used to car and shake down since Rockingham and was a very easy 10.02 time.

Second lap went more to set a good time but with a Swift crash and briken BMW making slow zones and yellow flags ran a 9.30

Third lap was bit more open but fair amount of traffic and ran a 8.44

Still laps on the card so weather dependant will go again tomorrow (snow is due)

  3. Thought would give brief update.

It snowed at Nurburg so I buggered off to Amsterdam instead, since been back cars not really done much at all other than sit on the drive feeling sorry for itself. Probably done around 6 miles in 3 weeks.

    With that in mind I've just plumed in a route for my Sat Nav that goes;

    Folkestone > Champagne > Chambery > Mont Cenis > Val D'Isere> Petit St Bernard > Grand St Bernard > Furka > Susten > Grimsel > St Gotthard > Nufenen > Julier > St Mortiz > Livigno > Bormio > Stelvio > Umbrail > Offenpass > Fluela > Davos > Zurich > Black Forest > Baden Baden > Reims > Calais

Should stretch the legs on the car. I did the same in the GT-R 2 years back it was fantastic trip, thought why not in the Megane.

I'll probably add a few other spots, locations, passes but those are the ones I'll certainly be visiting.

  4. Nice route there mate, sounds like a good trip

Don't forget some of the passes may not be open yet, depending on when you plan on going

  5. First week of July should be okay.

  6. Ah yes should be no problems then.

I've not been to Stelvio yet but from what I've read its very busy and narrow and Furkapass is a better drive and equally amazing scenery, if that's what you what. (I have been to Furka)

  7. I've done all the passes previously, Stelvio when I did it was a major cycling event on as in thousands so made it interesting it's probably in my top 3 least favorite passes very tight and slow.

I was with a friend in a McLaren and his clutch hated it, in my GT-R it was a struggle to get around the bends. Views at the top are amazing though although I'd say it's more of a motorcycle pass than for cars.

  8. Brief update as haven't done one for near 2 months, did the Eurotrip sampled the Focus RS, M3, Porsche GT3 and Porsche Cayman GTS mostly alongside my own little Megane.

Was very fun trip, car through up anti-pollution light around 5 times, through up check injectors 2 times and kept appearing STOP, Brake Failure. But car still ran fine and I was clearing faults as I went.

That said even the M3 was going limp mode but we were driving hard.

Injectors and turbo get replaced Tuesday anyway alongside car being remapped and few other bits.

Anyway for now a few photos I took.

  9. Nice photo`s, 4th one down looks like Lyme Regis in winter :tearsofjoy:. Any pic`s of the other cars?

  10. Those pics make me wanna go on a trip!

  11. This is one of my favourite megs out there looks stunning.

  12. +1, lovely car!

  13. Thanks guys, I had 630cc injectors and hybrid turbo fitted today and I can't believe the increase in torque and power, it's almost like everything pulls in a lower gear a 4th gear pull feels as if a 3rd gear pull used to but obviously your reaping the rewards of higher speeds it's fantastic.

  14. That sounds awesome! Are there any downsides to having a hybrid turbo fitted?

  15. Speeding fines!:sob:

  16. The bolts on mine have worked loose *twice* now. Probably increased heat, so if you track it, then think about heat management

I'll be relocating the battery to see if that helps, but in the meantime I've invested in some Stage8 bolts to try and prevent it recurring - but they ain't cheap and are difficult to source, I've gone direct to the US

The hybrid turbo also doesn't really make the car that much faster on track. You get better mid range performance but at the top end it runs out of steam.

If it's a road car, it's more than you need. If it's a track car... arguably it's not quite enough, but it's all relative and depends what you want out of it

  17. Interesting Neil thanks for that insight regarding the bolts, certainly something I'll consider and keep in mind.

It's made a huge difference for me in the sense that effectively I had my existing set-up put in place around December time, parts installed and mapping carried out by a INDY Renault garage / tuner.

Over this period of time I did some logs, dyno runs at various other places etc.

I didn't want to belittle or give negative facts regarding the tuner / INDY I used without have evidence or reasoning behind my opinions and thoughts to open a can of worms. I'd be surprised if said tuner doesn't frequent such forums anyway or that anyone can't work out whom I've used previously as well as it's hardly a huge topic thread to browse though anyway.

My gripes were as follows which it's just my personal thoughts, others may feel I was expecting to much and my thoughts are wrong but thats how I felt.

Issue 1 - When I had my suspension fitted the car was set up and sat to low, bearing in mind it was being set up for 'fast road / track' it was in fact not possible to achieve full lock unless a completely flat surface I managed around 3 miles before my arch liners tore, couldn't get onto my drive and the car handled worse than on CUP OEM suspension. This meant I had added expense of using a well renowned suspension specialist to set up the car.

Issue 2 - When paying for my suspension to be set up (48 hours after the install) it was noted the bleed nipples were lose, in-fact the rear left was pissing out fluid. I'd only just paid for brake lines and fluid change at the same time as suspension install this left me upset.

Issue 3 - When noted on my next trip to regarding the spongy brakes (as I'd had new discs and pads, lines and fluids) and the issue with the rear left caliper leaking fluid I was told perhaps the discs were warped. That was the action taken, not we'll redo fluids etc which I expected.

Issue 4 - Car developed a mis-fire, had a friend who maps for a living generally Jap cars with ECUTek, Syvecs etc take a peek into my map and check car over. Plugs incorrectly gapped and carbon build up, okay they're not the newest plugs but the build up was being caused by poor AFR ratios

Issue 5 - Injectors were getting clogged, a more technical person explained the reasons he believed behind being incorrect engine timing, this was now another person stating the mapping wasn't good for the car.

Issue 6 - I used 3 different dyno's one in Norwich on a testing day, one in Tewkesbury where I take the GT-R and another Megane tuners and all of them read under power by a fair amount to the chart I had been previously given of my power run from the mapper of the car which I know dyno's differ and lots of different parameters but these were quite far out.

I noticed at a track day that my car that had a good few thousand put into it was not really any quicker than OEM 250's and 265's on track somewhat a little disheartening.

Anyway I continue to monitor and get information from the car to make sure I was causing no long term effects.

Issue 7 - On a service I request some custom parts, now in fairness these were made to a very very high standard all be it around 4 weeks later than originally planned. But what annoyed me was when what was decided was discussed a figure of 'NO MORE THAN £350' was mentioned so when I came to pay a bill substantially higher it was my final straw with the all of above.

Issue 8 - The Engine mount was lose when fitted

Issue 9 - The tow eye strap doesn't fit the MK3 because the thread is to short

Issue 10 - The front strut brace bolts are to short they only literally pinch when screwed in (personal opinion)

I could go on with silly little points but I was disappointed sadly. Anyway with all of above I went elsewhere for servicing, fitting of parts and mapping and the car now feels completely different the drivability aspect is massive especially with a lot more torque.

I'm looking forward to getting back to Snetterton now and seeing what lap times will appear, I'm convinced I'll see a few seconds drop with pick up exiting corners alone.

    But in short to summarise.

Maybe it doesn't make a huge difference going from a tuned RS to the Hybrid but for me it feels like i've gone OEM to Hybrid now seeing 100+ bhp more and it's completely changed it all.

  18. Wow... I'd have been *pissed* with that stuff. I'm pleased you have got the car to a point you're happy

    Just watch the heat temps!

Interesting that you say tours runs out of steam at the top end of the hybrid Neil, I wonder if that is just the map as mine makes power all the way to its increased red line with my map and setup

  20. I've got hybrid sat waiting to go on so your point Neil has mad me question if it's worth the upgrade

  21. In my opinion, its worth it for mid range and makes it more interesting than just a remap and decay etc, but is not worth it for the track. But let's face it, it also depends what you're coming from and what you want from the car

It doesn't have much more power it can make Jamie - maybe an extra 10hp, but look at the graphs, they all die off towards red line

Paul is sorting a new hybrid that takes the power further ... Not sure if that needs fuelling changes or not mind you ?

Anyone got any info on the new RST hybrid?

  22. I've the RST Hybrid which was fitted Tuesday.

    325ft-lb torque @ 2,750rpm
    350ft-lb torque @ 3,000rpm - 5,200rpm before tails off

    Peak power @ 6,100rpm / 353.1bhp
    By 6,500rpm / 341.8bhp

Mid range is good but it certainly pulls hard all the way through, I don't know if it's because mine was running so poorly I'm seeing much larger gains or whether its' simply a case of being much better.

  23. That's similar to mine Andy. I hold 350lb/ft before it drops off, and the power comes in to 350 then tails off for the last 500rpm or so. I didn't want to run any higher boost for more torque lower down because I do drive fairly aggressively on track and I knew heat would be an issue (and it is!) and didn't want to find the limit of internals

On track, realistically it doesn't really pull from 4000-redline at higher speeds and lower gears (eg 4th/5th). Third has some poke but otherwise it's as quick as a Boxster GTS (just so happens my brother has that car and they're evenly matched in a straight line, though his auto box changes gear infinitely more smoothly and quickly than I can in a manual)

Issues at this stage for trying to get any more...

    1. Stock manifold brings in torque early, probably not very free flowing, so engine doesn't have that much higher up the range

    2. Cams aren't that aggressive (though not sure about cat cams adding much power on the hybrid, have only seen them with bigger turbo)

    3. Turbo runs out of puff - it's only small!

Bigger turbos can generate more power but to really control the flow, I've been recommended the GTX3071

However if you go beyond 400bhp you:

    - have clutch considerations
    - need a fuelling solution (bigger pump etc) and also consider oil surge/starvation at higher rpm
    - forged internals, better valves etc
    - need to think about more heat management

  24. I will need to think about clutch and various shortly.

Interestingly since I had the car I used to see around 19mpg on a normal based fast road drive, odd blast. (220-240 miles per tank)

Had Mark Black do Cambelt, Water Pump, Dephaser pulley, etc now I'm suddenly and done around 9 tanks consistently seeing same results getting as high as 300 miles per tank which works out at around 25mpg.

I've in no way, shape or form changed my driving style but I'm seeing this change in fuel economy. Would it be a case of 6 year old belt was stretched and throwing the timing out?

I remember reading about Matt saying he could pretty much driving nicely get all way to Nurburg on 1 tank, I tried and failed miserably but when I go September now feel I probably can.

  25. Gone the CAE shifter route should of kept the one I previously had but never fitted. Prices have gone up since the brexit and euro rate decrease and a 4 week lead time.

  26. Probably should update at some point this thread but long story short I've ended up with several sets of OZ Ultraleggera's as in 20+ wheels.

I'm selling sets for under £900 if anyone is interested. Think thats around £300 cheaper than anyone else in Europe although might be wrong only did a quick search of new ones.

5x114.3 / ET48 / 18"x8j brand new in unopened OZ Boxes, with bolts and everything as per norma.

I'd be interested in a set once I get my other OZs on and sell my two spare sets of wheels, ill be in touch

  28. I have the same wheels with the same spec and i can recommend them!

  29. Wonder if a Megane engine will fit in the front :tearsofjoy:

Nice front splitter in true Renault Sport fashion broken

This was when was removing the horrible front seats for a set of Recaro Trendlines.

  30. Beautiful, those seats look like they should have always been in there

I test drove one of these at my local Renault, they are unreal

  31. What colours do the wheels come in mate?
