USB files not working

  1. Hi All,

I've had my 250 for about 7 months now and all is well except some of my music files don't play.

The majority of them play, but some of get this message 'The file is corrupted' I know it seems pretty straight forward, but I've checked the files which have this message on my computer and they work fine. All the files are MP3 files, so I'm not sure what it is.

    Can anyone help me out?

    Thanks

  2. I used to get this now and again. Theres an update for the usb port on line somewhere, you download it to a usb and plug it and it downloads. Since then i can say ive never had this issue.

  3. I have seen this on some files where they are encoded with VBR (Variable Bit Rate). Often the computer application will handle them without issue but other audio equipment can have issues ( I use MediaMonkey for all my Audio manipulation and the free version should support conversion to FBR, (Fixed Bit Rate) ) which may solve the issues. It could also be that the encoding that you have on some files is fixed but not in a format supported by your In Car Player

  4. If you into settings and find the usb option it should tell you in there what version its running, 2.3 was the old one 2.4.2 is was the newer one. But it does seem that the links with the updated file no longer exists

  5. Lucky for you ive just had a nosey, and found ive still got my usb with the update file on it. So should be able to email it you.

  6. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

I'll use MediaMonkey in the future to convert, normally just goolge a MP3 converter and use the first one available.

I'll send you a private message with my email address.

  7. I just checked the version and it is 2.42

  8. Thats saved me sending the updated then, as my laptops playing up. Lol

  9. Lol yeah I guess so..

Any other ideas to what it could be?

  10. Have you tried converting/re-encoding the files as I suggested?

  11. I downloaded it but I can't find where to convert files?

  12. Will check and post some instructions when I get back to pc probably some time tomorrow[emoji3]

  13. Thanks mate

  14. OK the way that MM works is it keeps a library of your Media ( Music / Video Pod-casts Internet Radio & TV ), think of it as an iTunes for the non Apple user, (though it works with i Devices better than iTunes on a PC  )

The first thing you need to do is add your music files into the database. This is done by the Menu-File-Add/Rescan Files to Library or just press the [Ins] or [Insert] Key (dependent on your PC ). you can then either use the scan function on the base of your music folders or any other point, you can also deselect folders that you don't want included.

One thing to remember is that the library only shows media files and so you have to be careful if you move a file and leave an apparently empty folder, Deleting this could delete files that are not shown in the library - there are suitable warnings but best to be aware

One you have this library created you can edit the properties of any file you have for Things like Title, Artist, and such. and can grab info from the net

Don't worry this takes longer to describe that to do

    To convert files between formats

select a file or set of files (the same short-cuts that work in file Explorer are supported).

    Select Menu-Tools-Convert Format

    MM-Convert.PNG

Choose to either replace the originals (or best if you have the space) copy to a new location, ( which allows you to level the volume (so that all the files for the car are similar volume without changing the originals )

    Select the settings button ...

    MM-Convert-Options.PNG

Choose the options that you prefer, (as I have said, VBR is not recommended) it's best to check any specs you have for your head unit as to the actual settings required but anything around 128-192kbps should be fine for car use

(my Sony handles 320kbps so I use this so I do not need to keep two copies at high and lower quality but this does take up a lot of space (I have 3 64GB USBs for the Car ))

There is a full manual on the MM site that will allow you to hold all your music on a pc and then transfer files to a card or USB stick for use in the car and to do all needed conversions and Volume levelling on the fly ( it also allows you to rip CDs and obtain all data from the net to automagically sort things

  15. Thanks a lot for that. I'll give it a try when I get home.

  16. Any problems let me know and I'll see if I can help

  17. @barman58

Thanks a lot, this worked for all but one song, which I can live with.

I'll try and redownload that particular track and hopefully it works.

    Thanks again

  18. Good to hear you're winning, the odd file corrupting is something we all have to put up with unfortunately

  19. Yeah 1 song out of 120 odd is fine.

Thanks again for your help and taking the time to write up the instructions for me
