Hello, I've had my 2015 275 trophy for just over 4 months now and absolutely love it. It has all the toys including Ohlins etc which is all good. Yet to mod it in anyway, but wondering if I should upgrade to the R or just convert my car to the R spec and be content with that. With the R being more limited I feel it may hold its values more in the long run. What do you think? Thanks Rich
Cost? How much to change cars. What are you gaining if you get an `R`, same power,2 seats & a couple of bits & bobs scattered about to make it a bit different. If you have the Ohlin`s (& exhaust?), then your half way there. I`d keep yours & modify it.
Just keep the Trophy and get a remap or get that yellow R which is on sale now on autotrader stunning car !!
As above - any money you could make will be lost by swapping the current car for the R - don't bother. If you aren't worried about modifying the Trophy you could get it to a better spec than a R anyway. What are you planning to do with the car? Trackdays/garage queen/daily driver/fast road toy/speculative investment? Really the answer to this question kinda answers your original question, IMHO.
Xanda is right. Depends what you do with it. I assume the difference with the R is weight, front camber and brakes. None of which matter much on the road. If you track it you could get the AST hardware for 2/3 degrees of neg camber and the PFC two-piece discs and aggressive pads for far less than the cost to change. But for road use, camber only works if you use it. With traffic, line of sight and licence preservation, you might actually struggle to put enough tension in the chassis for the camber to make any difference apart from extending braking distances, not to mention issues with too low a brake temp. If you track, then the outcome might be different. Apologies to our resident chump if that has confused him btw.
Firstly, start with "why" At the moment sounds like you are striving for something "better". Well, bad news - cars will always get better so if you upgrade now, the next model will be better and so on... Why do you want to change? If you're looking at long term value... It's French clutter mate, so i dont see it becoming an investment
Thanks for the comments guys. Really great responses. Good to hear you're all thinking exactly the same thing as my car has akra&kohlins so near there - probably works out cheaper spending a few £ to bring to r spec rather than multiple £££ more upgrading. Nickfrog - have you run the AST camber plates? Without these, I wonder how much -ve camber one can achieve. Just to confirm, the car will be used as a toy amongst other cars.
I don't think you can get more than oe camber without them but others might know more. Will you be tracking it ?
Never try to convert a Trophy to R spec particularly with Renault OEM bits. Expensive and you never get a real R. Future value will never reflect a factory original R. If you want R capability, then there are cheaper and better mod options for a Trophy to match or improve on a standard R. You will also have the option in the future (if you keep the standard parts) with the Trophy to revert it back to standard for selling on. Many people don't like buying a heavily modified car, it limits buyer numbers, trade in options.
If you really want one of these, best wait to let prices settle. This one has been around ages unsold and just like many other RS. Prices are a bit rich atm.
