R26 Coil pack order help please?? Rough idle & engine vibration after spark plug & oil change

    Hi all,
    Please can anyone confirm the coil pack order on the Megane R26? I had my spark plugs changed last week but I'm not sure the mechanic took notice of the order of the coil pack. The car is now vibrating like mad and I can feel it through all the pedals, even when idle. The higher the revs, the more vibration I seem to get.

    The problem has just started since I had the work done,....the car was fine before.

    I don't really understand the numbering system which is commonly used e.g. 3 4 2 1 etc. So I might need a dummy explanation

    If I upload a photo of the coils on my engine could you guys confirm if any of them are in the wrong place?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm sure the plugs/cables for the coils aren't really long enough to get in the complete wrong order.....maybe just 2 are the wrong way round?

    You should be able to tell if the cable looks like its straining to reach the coil pack.

    Failing that, just swap them round methodically one at a time,and you'll know as soon as it runs better.

    Cheers for the reply, I'll get a photo at lunch and post it up.

    I was told 'the car always runs from 1 - 4 and 1 being at the flywheel end.'

    Does that mean coil number 1 goes on the side of the engine closest to the battery, and coil 4 goes to the side of the engine closest to where you fill the coolant & washer fluid? So its 4-3-2-1 as if you're looking down onto the engine?

    And are the coils numbered ?? :dizzy:

    As above...i dont think theres enough length to get them out of order.....but maybe 2 and 3. 1 is gearbox end so as you look at the car....4 3 2 1. Id give that a go. If no improvement take the plugs out and have a look at them. Get a photo sorted and hhopefully something will jump out at us

    Id also say that if the car WAS running ok to start with after the change, chances are the order is correct and its probably something else.

    Check the spark plugs are torqued up and haven't worked loose while you're there.

    wrong spark plugs for your car I reckon.
    what ones did you put in and were they the same number as before.

    I'm starting to think you're right. Aren't the OEM ones NGK? The mechanic used euro car parts - I have just checked and they are Bosch spark plugs (FR 7 DPP+):

    I was going to provide my own OEM ones but he ordered them in advance so I just took his word for it (these are for the F4R Engine):

    pop your reg number on the euro car parts web site and it will tell you the right ones for your car.

    Definitely looks ok from that pic,unless a cable is damaged and causing a misfire.

    Check the plugs first before doing anything else. As said above,see which type they are, and whether they're all a nice even brown colour on the tips and report back!

    The correct OEM plugs for a stock r26 are NGK PFR7Z-TG :wink:

    Do you think it might be the spark plugs? I've never ran it on anything other than the OEM ones.

    NGK PFR7Z-TG only on these, all others never run as well as them.

    I think I'm gonna bite the bullet & buy the OEM ones (NGK PFR7Z-TG), fit them myself. CBA messing about going back to who did them :rage:

    I've just looked at my euro car parts bill and saw that this oil has been used: TRIPLE QX Engine Oil (5w40 Fully Synthetic)

    For the past 3 years I've been using Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W-40 Ester Fully Synthetic Engine Oil.

    They're easy to get to and fit so you'll be fine!
    Just make sure you don't cross thread, or overtighten them :wink:

    Same goes for the coil pack bolts, don't over tighten them, they strip the thread very easily.

    It's not going to be as good a quality as the esther based pro-s, and it's relatively cheap by the look of it.

    Its not exactly going to destroy your engine though! Its a personal preference,just change it earlier.

    Things like this is exactly why I do my own oil changes and plugs lol

    As said the oil isn't going to cause you any problems. It's a shame the lack of official servicing has an impact on car values. It just goes to show how a stamp in a book can mean nothing, seeing as a garage can put substandard parts in.

    I know, I was going to supply all the parts myself like I always usually do, but he pre-ordered them.

    I just hope it is the spark plugs and nothing else!!

    Mate where are you based? Ive got 4 used OEM plugs that i took out of my 225 that you can have to test the theory. Free of charge as i was only going to throw them out

    Cheers mate.

    I did noticed this morning that the engine is running a bit smoother with the weather being cooler, which made me think....... I have noticed over the past few years that my engine runs roughly in hot weather. A few years ago I got an intermittent engine warning light and a lot of misfiring, stuttering and spluttering when the weather was very hot. I was going to get the injectors cleaned but I never got the warning light again.

    I reckon the injectors might be contributing to the issue? I've seen people having issues with injectors quite a lot on here.

    Nothing wrong with the Triple QX oil.

    Fred at BTM used to use it on the Clios and Meganes.

    It's made by Shell.

    Obviously the Fuchs Titan will be better, but the Triple QX will be fine for a daily driver.

    Got them today, will try and fit them tonight if it doesn't hammer it down.

    The car has been a lot better though in the cooler weather, but i'll probably get the injectors cleaned at some point when I have some cash. Its almost 10 years old now so probably would benefit.

    So I changed the spark plugs, the car is the same.

    It seems to be much rougher in hot weather, and I am getting a little bit of the exhaust cough.

    I might get the injectors cleaned, what does everyone think?

    if its coughing, its normally injectors mate, i had some horrible vibration on mine, turned out it was the top dog bone mount, it looked fine but a new one cured it.
