Engine is in.

  1. Got some nice weather so chucked the engine in today.
Fitted a new firewall carpet because the old one was falling to pieces and looked shite.

Quick test fit of the engine cover.

I can't wait to get all the other bits done now.

  3. Why do you open a new thread for everything you post?

None the less, good to see the engine in!

  4. I will have to get a project thread going and keep it all in one place.:relaxed:

Are you runing a mk2 gearbox? it was a direct fit to the mk3 block?

  6. Yes mate mk2 box is a straight fit.

  7. How easy is it fitting the mk3 engine? Any more details like who's doing it ect?

  8. It's basically the same as fitting a 225 enine.
Just need to swap the cam pulley cover for the top engine mounting and the rear lower bracket that the driveshaft goes through from the 225.

The thermostat housing needs swapping too. Think that's about it.

I'm just messing with the boost hoses because i want to use an engine cover and the brake servo hose because I've used the 225 throttle body.

I've also had to extend 3 wires for the manifold sensor as it's mounted sidewards on the 265 manifold.

I'm doing it all myself on my drive.

  9. Been fitting a few more bits whilst the weather is nice.

I'm using the 265 intercooler hoses, nice and easy so far. Just cut the end off that bolted to the 265 throttle body.

I had to extend the wires to two more sensors on the hose.

If you don't want to run an engine cover the 225 pipes are a straight fit. Just remove the cover ball thing from the inlet manifold.

    Did come across something unexpected.
Went to fit the battery cable to the alternator and the bolt snapped off.
You can see the bit on the top.

Was a blessing really. I then got the 265 alternator but that only has one wire to the small plug, the 225 has two.

I then went to swap the regulators over to find the brushes have virtually nothing left.
So I've now fitted the 265 alternator and order a new regulator and brushes.

  10. You can't just fit a different alternator, the upc won't reckognise it and it won't charge, it has to be programmed

  11. Bloody Renaults.

    Thanks tuttur.

  12. Yeah, that's what i thought after i installed my engine and had to remove the whole front again to replace the alternator...

  13. Bit of an update for this...

Cut the end off the intake hose and fitted an aluminium joiner. It was a right pain but I didn't want to reduce the pipe diameter and the plastic was too soft to clamp onto.

    20160529_143149_zpszoglgs3t.jpg

Put some heat wrap on it to help with any heatsoak (if it works, it works, if not who cares).
    20160529_155442_zpsdbjxmwaw.jpg

It's almost done now just waiting for a hose reducer and some gearbox oil and it's good to go.

  14. Tutuur I ended up just fitting new brushes to my 225 regulator and fitting that to the 265 alternator.
Started up first time and charges at 14.2v.
    Thanks for the heads up.

  15. Well done, quite impressed by this!

  16. Only left it running for a minute as I wasn't happy with the 265 5.5 bar fuel pump. I think it will over fuel but I wanted to make sure it runs with it.

I'm gong to fit the 225 pump back in so I can drive it around then fit the 265 pump when I get to rstuning.

Tried to add a video but don't know how to do it.

  17. 14,2v doesn't say anything as it's current regulated by the upc. But aslong as you don't get a warning it's fine

  18. Your fuel thoughts won't work mate, the pressure is boost referenced on the manifold while it isn't boost regulated on a 225. So if you do wan't to fit the 225 punp you'll have to unplug the boost reference on the manifold

    ewant81 and James like this.
  19. I'm only going to be driving off boost just to make sure it's all good.

Do you think it's best to unplug the vacuum to the fpr then until I get to rstuning?

No lights in the dash, well only the abs one because it hasn't moved yet.

  20. Hope this works. It's only a couple of seconds because I forgot to press record.

  21. Nice one James! Glad you got this running. How did you wire/plumb the 265 fuel pump into the 225 tank in the end?

  22. The pump was easy.
There's only 4 wires, two for the pump and two thinner ones for the level sender.

    ewant81 likes this.
  23. Yeah unplug the reference line and you'll be fine, it's just a set 3 bar in that case, you can then use the 250pump too without noticing any difference!

  24. Thanks again tutuur.

You've been a big help on this. Saved me messing about swapping the pumps again.

  25. I thought you had some issues with the fuel lines, was it maybe the return line? Just wondering how you resolved the issue

  26. Yeah that was a pain.

The extra inlet on the pump went to a vent on top of the tank.

Mine must vent a different way so I just capped it off.

I've had it running upto full temperature now. No problems at all, apart from one. I need a slim fan because the standard one catches on the new inlet hose.

I should of checked that ages ago but forgot.

Just waiting for a few more parts so I can get it tidied snd finished.

Hot it booked in at rstuning in 2 weeks so better get my finger out.

  31. Can I suggest that you move this thread to the blogs and rename it? Seems to be getting the most info and we are linking in your other threads as we go [emoji846]

  32. Ah great, picking a 250 engine up tomorrow to replace my 225 engine coming winter

Don't suppose you fancy doing mine too??

  37. You kidding?! All this amazing stuff you can do but you can't embed a video lol

Conversely I can embed video, but wouldn't know how to even change brake pads

  38. Sorry I haven't been on here for a while but I'm now going through a very messy and expensive divorce so won't be spending any more time or money on my trophy.
I'm not even allowed back to my own house so can't get to all my tools and I'm not paying a garage because I don't trust any that are local to do a good enough job.
I'm now looking at either selling it as it is or breaking it for parts and buying a cheap diesel for a while until I get back on my feet.
    Gutted.
