NURBURGRING - RS250 follows FAST Nissan GT-R video

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by R26Man, May 3, 2016.

  1. For anyone interested in the difference between HUGE power and heavy weight vs smaller power and a good chassis. Coincidental meeting with a VERY fast tuned Nissan GT-R and myself at the Nurburgring.

    Enjoy!

  2. nice driving, that GTR sounded loud!

  3. Hi Martin...
You should have been sat where I was!!!! Not so easy to see (sorry for the quality) but that thing was spitting flames the whole way!

  4. i would have loved to be sat where you was  one day! you must know the ring like the back of your hand now.

  5. Well peddled OP. Meg's look quick at the Ring.

  6. As above well driven, but I can't help think the GTR was playing about with you mate, 1st time he disappeared should of been the last time you saw him, think he was backing off to have a play, that thing just shot off from you, well done Paul

  7. Nice vid

What's the rules with regards to cameras at the ring now - is that suction mount (and tethered?) or some kind of fixed mount?

  8. This all over, it's a nice video and GTR's are heavy but driven with the same commitment and gusto as the OP's Megane it would be a long way in front.

  9. Hi Steve,
You are absolutely right he should have disappeared...it could be that the car has too much power and a driver who uses it to make big gains on the straights and has trouble slowing into and driving out of the corners. It must be a BEAST to drive and pretty scary if it's on standard set-up!

  10. No external cameras allowed.
Inside cameras fixed with proper mount.

Lot's of people go round with passengers using phones and whatever. It's up to them but I would not recommend it for safety of you or the phone....plenty of stories about people dropping iPads and phones and causing an accident distracting the driver!

  11. Brilliant drive Paul

  12. This is obvious - and the fact the GTR is caught going up Kesselchen shows he probably wanted someone to drive along with but the difference between the cars is huge. The 275 trophy does a full lap in just under 8. The GTR, in standard form, is half a minute quicker, and the GTR can be driven by someone who simply knows where the track goes can still pedal round under 8min BTG

however that's still an 8:30ish lap with an accident at the end that the OP rightly slowed well down for and didn't gun it out (unlike the GTR) - that's no slouch. Anything on 8-8:15ish pace is quick in a Meg, make no mistake.

To OP; sorry to to labour the point but was it a suction mount or is that a bullet cam with proper mount (or is it mounted to a cage)?

  13. As a laugh the other day I posted on FB a comparision video of Megane RS and GT-R (Both my cars and me driving).

The Megane video was my 2nd ever lap around the Ring in it, did a slighter / refresher to see how the suspension would cope and that particular lap ended with a yellow flag near the end but a 8min 39sec time all be it a feeler start. The GT-R video was last May and was my first lap of the year out sighter / refresher it was early and wanted to see where the track had remained damp.

Anyway it's basically comical the difference in speed traveling under the Bridge, although once on the bends the Megane catches up anyway all be it the GT-R being far from guns-ho. The Megane video looks much slower, difference I think is fact it's further back and more FPS.

  15. Great vid and driving. Wish I knew the 'ring as well.

Knowing a bunch of GTR owners I'd almost guarantee he wasn't slowing to let you catch up!

They tend to be great on the straights, mostly why they buy them, which is a shame as they're brilliant in the twisty's and on the brakes.

I don't suppose you'll be at the 'ring July 22-27?

  16. Yeah I'll be here....look out for my Oyster Grey 250 with German plates AWOL 100 and say Hi.

  17. Great - So long as my 25 year old Shed hasn't broken down before getting there I'll be in a grey Skyline R32 GTR (Registration D296 SAM) along with another R32 (with Swiss plates) and a new focus RS from the UK. I'll just be driving the tourist laps but will be passengerig for the track day on the Monday, unless I manage to buy an R26 Megane before, in which case I may take that instead.

Would love to get a passenger lap out with you if poss (no worries if not) and would of course be happy to take you out in the old Datsun!

    Prost,
    Sam
