Cambelt change yourself

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by arranheath28, Apr 18, 2016.

  1. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had changed they're own cambelt and if its relatively straight forward? Now I know I will need to purchase timing tool and parts but I should save myself £300 in total. I've done a few cam belts in the past so I'm no novice.

    Thanks Arran

From what i've seen and read over the years on the f4r engine it's better to let someone experienced do it, its so easy to knock the timing out as theres all sorts of gubbins attached to the engine head.

I have changed my cam belt and didn't use the expensive the timing tools

  4. I did mine, it's not difficult.
Just use the proper tools and follow the steps.

  5. Is there a step by step guide as to how to do it as I've done a few on pre 92 cars but nothing as new as my 225 trophy.

Im handy with the spanners etc but not sure of exact timing tools needed?

    Cheers

  6. I've done plenty now, always use the tools! I bought mine from Renault dealer and you'll often get trade.

It's important to use them as these engines are quite sensitive in terms of timing and only needs to be a nats cock out and they can be down on power.

Also that way it'll be completely tensioned correctly

  8. We'd all appreciate a bit of a 'how to guide' if you get chance to sit down and write on.

    Cheers

  9. How much did they set you back? A guide would very good but I can imagine it would be a pain in the ass to write out! So is there any key steps that we need to know about? Thanks Arran

  10. About 130 but it was a few years back, if I get chance I'll do a guide this weekend with a few vital steps and torque settings

  11. That would be awesome! I think me and a few guys on here would greatly appreciate that!! Thanks!

  12. No worries mate, I've been very busy recently and tbh when I sit down and write it it's got to be bang on as its a very critical job
